The lands of Arrakis in Dune Awakening have death around every corner. The Harkonnen and the Atreides are at war, and being caught in the middle is a good way to get shot. Manage to avoid the soldiers and venture into the sand, and you run the risk of a sandworm swallowing you whole. If all of that somehow doesn’t kill you, the heat will cause dehydration and eventual death anyway.

Everything in Dune Awakening is out to kill you and dying can be a scary prospect, as you may fear losing your progress. The game has a ton of quests, some of which are very long, and the thought of losing progress can be frustrating.

Thankfully, Dune Awakening automatically saves the game, meaning you don’t have to do anything to keep your progress safe. But this saving system comes with a caveat that you should know about.

As stated earlier, Dune Awakening automatically saves your progress at regular intervals. It also saves your progress after major moments, meaning that the quest you completed is saved for sure.

Now, while you may be inclined to save and quit after completing a quest and calling it a day, do not do so. Every time you exit the game, your character stays in the in-game world for 30 additional seconds. This means your character will be vulnerable to everything for 30 seconds after you quit. This particular system is likely in place to prevent people from quitting by pressing Alt + F4 during PVP battles. This way, if the other player quits while losing, you still have the chance to kill them.

While this save system may seem balanced in PVP, you still die each time you quit the game in regular scenarios. Therefore, it is wise to go to a safe spot on the map before you save. Anywhere you don’t run the risk of dying works, and in our case, we’ve found the Tradeposts to fill that spot well. Head to any Tradepost before you quit to keep your character safe.
