Starting the Thieves’ Code Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Your first step in this quest is to talk to Chenyek. You can find him at The Hole in the Wall in Kuttenberg. However, there are some prior quests you must complete before starting the Thieves’ Code quest. These are:
- Into the Underworld
- Feast for the Poor
Into the Underworld is one of the main quests of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2; meanwhile, Feast for the Poor is a quest assigned by Chenyek himself. So, they’re not very obscure.
Once both quests are complete, come back and talk to Chenyek. This time, he will start the Thieves’ Quest. Head up to Hynek’s house, located in the northern part of Kuttenberg.
(Note: Although optional, you should head right after opening the door first, and lockpicking through a door, followed by a chest. Grab the cellar key from here to help you later on.)
Now, proceed as normal, and you will talk to Hog. Loot Hynek’s letter from the dead body, and you will find this riddle. It reads out:
“A vineyard in town? Strange, but who knows!
And yet there it is, quite nearby.
By the water that gushes, now listen and try
to keep your eyes open, so that you can tell
shortly after the midday bell,
you’ll find us where the shadow goes.”

How To Solve the Thieves’ Code Riddle in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
The ‘vineyard in town’ refers to Vintners’ Street. The ‘water that gushes’ nearby is related to the fountain in that area. If you go there and wait until midday, the shadow of the fountain will point you in the right direction.
You will notice that the shadow points you towards a white house. Sneak in through the back door, and turn left. Follow the stairs down into the cellars and look to your left. Ideally, you will be able to open this door using the cellar key you acquired earlier. However, even if you didn’t, you can lockpick the door.
Once inside, open the chest on the floor, and grab the parchment with drawings. Take this item back to Chenyek to finalize the quest and get your rewards.
