In Oblivion Remastered, players can explore a world filled with spells, stealth, and sinister tools—and few items are as deceptively dangerous as poisoned apples. These seemingly ordinary fruits serve as an instant death sentence for any NPC you manage to trick into eating one.

Poisoned apples are especially useful in Dark Brotherhood quests like ‘The Purification,’ which require you to kill multiple non-hostile targets within one area. They can thus be invaluable at higher difficulties, allowing you to take out powerful characters without even having to draw your weapon. Here is how you can eliminate targets in one of the most discreet and comical methods in Oblivion Remastered.

Before you can start poisoning your enemies, you will first have to locate a few poisoned apples. Most poisoned apples in the game are available to Dark Brotherhood members. 10 poisoned apples can be found at once in Fort Farragut, inside a locked barrel in Lucien Lachance’s lair. You will visit this area for ‘The Purification.’ You can also buy five poisoned apples at a time from M’raaj-Dar in the Cheydinhal Sanctuary as a Dark Brotherhood member. Alternatively, a single poisoned apple is located in the Bravil Wizard’s Grotto.

How To Use Poisoned Apples

The main use of poisoned apples is to eliminate characters discreetly without gaining a bounty or inviting aggression. Using poisoned apples is the only way to kill NPCs in front of others without drawing aggression. There are two ways to make NPCs eat poisoned apples: reverse pickpocketing and placing them on dining tables.

Reverse Pickpocketing

To reverse pickpocket, sneak, and press the use button on a character (E on PC). This will open the character’s inventory. Instead of taking anything, toggle to your inventory, and select a poisoned apple to place it in the character’s inventory. If you are caught doing it, you will lose disposition with the target. For greater odds of success, perform the reverse pickpocketing while the character is asleep. Remove all other food items from the target’s abode. Now, all you need to do is wait until the NPC gets hungry around meal time. They will sit down, eat the poisoned apple, and die almost immediately.

Placing Poisoned Apples on Dining Tables

Identify the target’s regular dining area, which is usually a dining table with food placed on it. Remove all other food from the table and place poisoned apples on it. When the target sits down at the table at mealtime, they will start eating the poisoned apple and die within a few seconds.

This approach doesn’t require a high Sneak stat, which is needed for reverse pickpocketing. However, it can accidentally kill anyone else living with the target. Since the target must eat the poisoned apple to be affected by it, this method of assassination will not work on NPCs who have a replenishing food source or those who do not eat.
