Here is a guide on how you can start the quest needed to join the Dark Brotherhood in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.

The Dark Brotherhood is one of the most iconic factions in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered that you can join. The quest involving this faction can get dark at times. This is because of the twisted ambitions of the Dark Brotherhood. The contracts you need to complete can often force you to confront your own sense of morality.
Fortunately, this faction is accessible in the early stages of the game. This means you won’t have to wait long just to become a member. Here is a guide on how you can join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered.

Kill an Innocent NPC
The first thing you need to do is kill any innocent NPC. You can head to the nearest city to do your assassination attempt. Preferably, you can try and kill beggars at night when fewer people are walking around. This way, you won’t have to kill people who are essential to the story. Use stealth so you won’t get detected by anyone, especially the guards, who can be annoying to deal with. Be careful not to kill NPCs that are tied to quests. Beggars are the best targets, as they are often not associated with any quests.
After killing an innocent NPC, you will see a notification at the top left of your screen that says, “Your killing has been observed by forces unknown.” This is an indicator that you have completed the first step.
Afterward, head to an inn or sleep in the nearest bed or bedroll. You will then wake up and be greeted by Lucien Lachance, who will offer you the chance to join the Dark Brotherhood. He will give you a quest that you must complete so you can gain access to their secret hideout.

Complete “A Knife in the Dark” Quest
Your initiation task is to kill Rufio in the Inn of Ill Omen. It’s located just north along the path from Bravil. Lucien Lachance will give you the Blade of Woe, which you need to use to assassinate your target.
Head inside the inn, ask where Rufio’s room is, and head to the location. Sneak your way inside so you won’t alert anyone, especially your target. Use the Blade of Woe to kill Rufio and complete the initiation.
Afterward, find a bed or bedroll and sleep. You can use Rufio’s bed, as it is the nearest one available. You will then wake up and be greeted by Lucien Lachance again, and he will give you entry to the Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.

Gain Access to the Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary

Head to Cheydinhal in the northern region of Cyrodiil and find the location of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. You need to break into a boarded-up house using a lockpick. Once you are inside, head straight to the caverns until you see a door.
When interacting with the door, you will be asked the question, “What is the color of the night?” You need to respond, “Sanguine, my brother.” Once you are inside, talk to Ocheeva and complete your initiation to officially join the Dark Brotherhood faction in Oblivion Remastered.
Keep in mind that you can’t cheese your way inside by heading straight to the Dark Brotherhood entrance without completing the initiation.
