Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a massive RPG with various things to do in it. But the developers still weren’t satisfied with it. So, they introduced Shield Painting, alongside many more features, through the Brushes with Death DLC. This new mechanic does exactly what its name suggests. It allows players to paint and customize their shields with various colors, patterns, and symbols.

Furthermore, the mysterious Master Voyta will teach Henry this art. So, without further delay, here’s how to paint your shields in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

As mentioned briefly earlier, to learn shield painting, you will need Voyta. For that, you will have to start the Brushes with DLC quest. It begins with Voyta asking you to get his stolen brushes back in the Sketchy Situation quest.

Once you have returned the stolen items to the painter, he will settle in his workshop in Trosky Castle. If you are struggling to find him, look for a purple paintbrush marker. After that, meet him during the day and ask about Shield Painting. For that, you can either pick the “How does shield painting work” or “Paint a shield for me” dialogue options.

For Shield Painting, of course, you will need a shield on you. Fortunately, it does not matter if it is already painted or blank. Once you have asked Voyta to paint a shield, give him any of your shields. In KCD 2, there are primarily four types of shields: Cuman, Knight, Pavese, and Heater. Any of them will work.

Then, you will have four of the following options to customize your shield:

  • Pattern: The term “Pattern” generally refers to the background of the shield in this context.

  • Color I & II: Color I and II are the only two available slots for colors on your shield.

  • Symbols: You will find many symbols under the category option, including Historical ones or something that represents an Animal. Additionally, Henry will be able to unlock more symbols by exploring the world and progressing through the various quests.

Once you are satisfied with your shield’s new design, select the “Accept Change” option below to make it permanent. Thankfully, since you helped Voyta during the Sketchy Situation quest, he will paint your shield free of cost. After that, you can keep asking him to paint different shields or restore the original design.
