Marvel Rivals has seen an impressive launch, with hundreds and thousands of concurrent players. While the game falls under the hero-shooter genre, it is not entirely about superheroes. There are villains and anti-heroes as well, some of which perform better than the heroes, in fact. With a massive roster of over 30 characters, a tier classification is in order for the current patch.
This article classifies the entire roster of Marvel Rivals into a unified tier list. Not all heroes perform that well, and not all villains are doomed to face defeat. The division of heroes in this list takes all roles into consideration and is relevant for the current patch in February 2025.
This Marvel Rivals Tier List classifies all heroes into four ranks:
- S: The best characters in Marvel Rivals who consistently perform well in all scenarios.
- A: These characters are great in most scenarios, but are outshined by the S-tier characters.
- B: They are good characters, but they rely on other factors like map and team synergies.
- C: These characters are currently underwhelming, and mostly do not make a lot of impact in matches.
The characters have been classified in this tier list based on the following criteria:
- Impact in a game: How well they generally perform when played right.
- Universal Synergy: How well the characters synergize with others irrespective of their Team-Up ability.
Note: This list is subjective and reflects the writer’s opinions.

S-tier: The Main Players in a Match
![Marvel Rivals S-tier heroes.](https://deltiasgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Marvel-Rivals-S-tier-heroes.jpeg)
- Vanguards: Hulk, Doctor Strange
- Duelists: Moon Knight, Hela, Storm, Winter Soldier
- Strategists: Invisible Woman, Luna Snow, Loki, Cloak & Dagger
S-tier heroes in Marvel Rivals are good in every scenario and perform well in every match. Doctor Strange’s portals are game changers and you can create very unique scenarios with them. While mobility is an obvious answer, these also serve as cheeky angles that you can set up with other duelists to catch entire enemy teams off-guard at times. You can use the portals in many ways to make unexpected plays. On the other hand, Hulk is a game-changer owing to his survivability and team-up ability. Strange’s damage potential increases by a lot with a Hulk in team, and this also makes his ultimate more damaging.
Moon Knight and Hela are among the best Poke-Duelists in Marvel Rivals and deserve the S-tier out of sheer versatility. Marvel Rivals Season 1 saw a buff to Storm, which has instantly made this mutant a top pick in the metas. She is a menace in casual plays, and competitive matches after Diamond rank mostly see her banned owing to her massive utility and damage. Winter Soldier was initially underwhelming in Season 0, but once you experience the full extent of his kit, he is one of the most devastating damage dealers out there. With a seemingly infinite ultimate and an ability to isolate opponent players, he is one of the best duelist units in Marvel Rivals currently.
Invisible Woman’s addition to Marvel Rivals has somewhat triggered the three-healer meta. Her abilities can heal you mid air, and she has one of the best defensive ultimates in the game currently. Luna Snow is a similar player, with an ultimate that is mostly used to counter your opponent’s ultimates. The same goes for Cloak & Dagger, although they have different use-cases. While Luna can excel with freezes to stun opponents, Cloak & Dagger has the ability to make enemies vulnerable, which in turn helps to kill them. Moreover, you can deal a significant amount of damage with them as well.
Loki is the master of deception, and his clones and ultimate are painful. His lamps have a heal output that can counter many ultimates, and his ultimate is very versatile. You can copy anyone as Loki to clutch the round depending on the team’s need. Whether it is another defensive ultimate to hold point or another Punisher ultimate to force-win the point, you name it, you have it with Loki.
A-tier: Your Next Best Option
![Marvel Rivals A-tier heroes.](https://deltiasgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Marvel-Rivals-A-tier-heroes.jpeg)
- Vanguards: Magneto, Peni Parker, Groot
- Duelists: Psylocke, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Namor, Wolverine, The Punisher, Star-Lord, Squirrel Girl
- Strategists: Mantis, Rocket Raccoon
A-tier heroes in this Marvel Rivals tier list are good in their own rights, but they are mostly outshined by the S-tier heroes with their sheer versatility. Most of the characters here can potentially make it to S-tier with some tweaks to their kits, but that’s a different discussion. Magneto is one of the best shielders in the game and has massive survivability for both himself and his team. He can protect a diving teammate with his bubble and increase his own damage output in return.
Peni Parker is currently undoubtedly the best Controller-Vanguard in Marvel Rivals. She can put a lot of utilities in a site that can be problematic for opponents, especially if they are running a dive composition. Moreover, she can also buff your healing received, making her a must-have in control setups. She is one of the few trap-heroes in Marvel Rivals currently and is an absolute beast at this role as well. Groot on the other hand has shields which can isolate enemies and protect you at the same time. Once you master the placement of these shields, Groot is a very dangerous opponent to play against.
Psylocke, on the other hand, is an amazing Dive-Duelist. She is fast and can traverse big portions of the map easily. Moreover, she deals massive damage in close-to-mid range with her combos, irrespective of what team she is in. All these characters have ultimate abilities that could potentially wipe teams if the opponents are not wary enough.
Star-Lord is an interesting Duelist who relies on mobility and really quick attacks. His playstyle is similar to that of Tracer from Overwatch, both in terms of the primary weapon and damage style. He can deal a lot of poke damage and has the ability to kill almost all squishy units in the game. Finally, his ultimate is an aimbot that automatically locks on to enemies, and you can easily shred multiple enemies with it if used at the right time.
Wolverine has seen some amazing plays, although more towards the higher ranks. His playstyle is vastly different from the other duelists, and Logan excels at damaging tanks or stealing enemies out of position and bringing them to the backline in order to finish them. However, Wolverine only excels in a team with proper communication.
For Strategists, Rocket Raccoon is one of the best, and many would be surprised to see him at A-tier instead of S in this Marvel Rivals tier list. He can heal, has an ability that can revive one ally and his ultimate gives infinite ammunition to everyone. Mantis is another support who has a defensive ultimate, but her gameplay is focused largely on DPS. However, she shines because of her ability to buff teammates, and “sleep” opponents, which can be particularly effective to cancel out some opponent ultimates, or to counter dive heroes and kill them instantly.
B-tier: They’re Not That Great
![Marvel Rivals B-tier heroes.](https://deltiasgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Marvel-Rivals-B-tier-heroes.jpeg)
- Vanguards: Venom, Thor
- Duelists: Scaret Witch, Iron Fist, Iron Man, Black Panther, Magik
- Strategists: Adam Warlock
Let’s get one thing clear – these heroes are not bad at all. However, they are not good either. These characters suffer from a case of severe mediocrity and are greatly outshined by other heroes who fill in their shoes and do a better job. These are still viable picks if you want to really utilize the Team-Up Abilities, but other than that, they are not likely to be frequent picks.
C-tier: Best to Avoid For Now
![Marvel Rivals C-tier heroes.](https://deltiasgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Marvel-Rivals-C-tier-heroes.jpeg)
- Vanguards: Captain America
- Duelists: Mister Fantastic, Black Widow
- Strategists: Jeff the Land Shark
These characters perform poorly in the current state of the game. They do not bring any exclusive characteristics to a team, there are multiple characters who can do their job far better and more efficiently. These heroes are likely going to be picked as specific counter-play options only. Similar extremely niche scenarios could make you pick these characters, otherwise they are not going to see a lot of playtime in the current meta.
