This Marvel Rivals tier list classifies all the heroes in the game into four tiers based on their overall impact and meta of the game.
Marvel Rivals has seen an impressive launch, with hundreds and thousands of concurrent players. While the game falls under the hero-shooter genre, it is not entirely about superheroes. There are villains and anti-heroes as well, some of which perform better than the heroes, in fact. With a massive roster of over 30 characters, a tier classification is in order for the current patch.
This article classifies the entire roster of Marvel Rivals into a unified tier list. Not all heroes perform that well, and not all villains are doomed to face defeat. The division of heroes in this list takes all roles into consideration and is relevant for the current patch in December 2024.
This Marvel Rivals Tier List classifies all heroes into four ranks:
- S: The best characters in Marvel Rivals who consistently perform well in all scenarios.
- A: These characters are great in most scenarios, but are outshined by the S-tier characters.
- B: They are good characters, but they rely on other factors like map and team synergies.
- C: These characters are currently underwhelming, and mostly do not make a lot of impact in matches.
The characters have been classified in this tier list based on the following criteria:
- Impact in a game: How well they generally perform when played right.
- Universal Synergy: How well the characters synergize with others irrespective of their Team-Up ability.
Note: This list is subjective and reflects the writer’s opinions.

S-tier: The Main Players in a Match
- Vanguards: Venom, Magneto
- Duelists: Moon Knight, Psylocke, Hela, The Punisher
- Strategists: Mantis, Luna Snow
S-tier heroes in Marvel Rivals are good in every scenario and perform well in every match. Venom is currently the best Dive-Vanguard in the game and has a good balance of mobility and survival. Paired with any other vanguard, Venom can effectively disrupt the enemy formation. This gives the duelists ample openings to deal damage. Contrarily, Magneto is the best shielder in the game and has massive survivability for both himself and his team. He can protect a diving teammate with his bubble and increase his own damage output in return.
Moon Knight, Hela, and The Punisher are the best Poke-Duelists in Marvel Rivals and deserve the S-tier out of sheer versatility. Psylocke, on the other hand, is an amazing Dive-Duelist. She is fast and can traverse big portions of the map easily. Moreover, she deals massive damage in close-to-mid range with her combos, irrespective of what team she is in. All these characters have ultimate abilities that could potentially wipe teams if the opponents are not wary enough.
Mantis and Luna Snow are the best universal Strategists or healers in the game. Their healing is fast, they can buff teammates with a damage-boost, and they do not need to have teammates in direct sight to heal. Their overall healing potential is great, and they perform well in all kinds of team compositions. Both these characters have ultimates that can potentially counter an opposing Duelist or Vanguard’s ultimates or combos, and secure a clutch save for the team.
A-tier: Your Next Best Option
- Vanguards: Doctor Strange, Peni Parker, Captain America
- Duelists: Black Widow, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Spider-Man
- Strategists: Adam Warlock, Cloak & Dagger, Loki, Rocket Raccoon
A-tier heroes in this Marvel Rivals tier list are good in their own rights, but they are mostly outshined by the S-tier heroes with their sheer versatility. Most of the characters here can potentially make it to S-tier with some tweaks to their kits, but that’s a different discussion. Doctor Strange is a shield hero, but it is his portals that can be a game changer in many scenarios. Moreover, he can protect his teammates and has a support-ultimate with team-wipe potential.
Captain America is a wild card and in a good way. He can dive when needed, can disrupt enemies, or even become a mini shield when needed. His playstyle is completely unique, but the utility he provides is too good in the right hands. His playstyle is more like a buffed-up Duelist with more damaging abilities. Peni Parker is currently undoubtedly the best Controller-Vanguard in Marvel Rivals. She can put a lot of utilities in a site that can be problematic for opponents, especially if they are running a dive composition. Moreover, she can also buff your healing received, making her a must-have in control setups. She is one of the few trap-heroes in Marvel Rivals currently and is an absolute beast at this role as well.
Black Widow is currently the game’s only sniper and performs well on most maps. Her shots deal a good amount of damage, and she can two-shot most squishy characters from the right distance. Team compositions are not a factor for her, since she is usually at an odd angle or at the backline. Moreover, she can counter some of the more annoying characters like Star-Lord, Spider-Man, and Iron Man, who rely on mobility to chip away at your team.
Iron Man, Iron Fist, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man all have exceptional damage potential, however, they rely on some specific factors to be effective. For example, Spider-Man and Iron Fist are melee-only characters who need to get up close and personal to deal damage. Hawkeye needs to aim extensively, and can never lose focus. Iron Man has to fly constantly and keep moving to avoid being shot down. Scarlet Witch is one of the easiest characters to play who can deal a lot of damage. However, she does not do very well against dive-heroes who can get in and get out before she can complete her combos.
For Strategists, Rocket Raccoon is one of the best, and many would be surprised to see him at A-tier instead of S in this Marvel Rivals tier list. He can heal, has an ability that can revive one ally and his ultimate gives infinite ammunition to everyone. Adam Warlock is slightly different, however, he can revive an entire team with his ultimate if used in the correct spot. The only reason Cloak & Dagger and Loki are in this tier is because they are fairly complex to play. Their support abilities depend on how you can control them. While the former can deal an impressive amount of damage, Loki is the master of trickery and can copy an opponent to use all their abilities, including ultimates.
B-tier: They’re Not That Great
- Vanguards: Groot, Thor
- Duelists: Black Panther, Magik, Squirrel Girl, Storm, Star-Lord, Wolverine
- Strategists: Jeff the Land Shark
Let’s get one thing clear – these heroes are not bad at all. However, they are not good either. These characters suffer from a case of severe mediocrity and are greatly outshined by other heroes who fill in their shoes and do a better job. These are still viable picks if you want to really utilize the Team-Up Abilities, but other than that, they are not likely to be frequent picks.
C-tier: Best to Avoid For Now
- Vanguards: Bruce Banner (Hulk)
- Duelists: Namor, Winter Soldier
- Strategists: nil
These characters perform poorly in the current state of the game. They do not bring any exclusive characteristics to a team, there are multiple characters who can do their job far better and more efficiently. These heroes are likely going to be picked as specific counter-play options only. For example, Namor’s Monstrous Spawn can be an effective counter to keep doing poke damage at dive heroes if your team cannot keep up with it. Similar extremely niche scenarios could make you pick these characters, otherwise they are not going to see a lot of playtime in the current meta.
