Colonel Volgin in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is one of the main bosses that you’ll have to confront. He is responsible for the Shagohod Project, which involves creating a mobile nuclear missile launching platform. During the latter half of the game, Snake must infiltrate Groznyj Grad to plant C3 explosives on the Shagohod in a bid to destroy it. Volgin’s boss fight isn’t the most difficult in the game, since you’ll need to face off against The Boss during the final act. Even so, if you’re a new player who doesn’t have experience with the original Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, you might need help to defeat Volgin. The following are some tips you must follow when going into the fight.

  • The boss fight has a five-minute timer, which means you’ll need to end Volgin before the clock runs out.
  • Volgin has an electricity-based shield that protects him from most of your attacks. You’ll need to look for openings when the shield is inactive. Timing is key here.
  • At first, don’t attack him as he’s invulnerable. Instead, simply dodge any incoming attacks. Make sure Snake is unarmed, as having a weapon in hand will prevent him from moving out of an attack’s way.
  • Apart from electricity attacks, the Colonel will also shoot at Snake occasionally. Be quick on your feet and dodge these.
  • When Volgin is charging toward you, you’ll need to time your CQC moves correctly to throw him off and temporarily stun him. Make use of this brief window of opportunity and take a couple of shots at him.
  • During the fight, Volgin will turn his back to you once when he shouts at Revolver Ocelot. Make sure you fire off as many shots as you can when this happens, as Volgin is vulnerable at this point.
  • Follow these moves to drain his health to 50%, after which the boss’s second phase will begin. At this point, simply focus on avoiding his electricity-based attacks. He will soon need to recharge his power, and he’ll head to the junction box nearby. Take your shots right at this instant.
  • During the second phase, the boss might also unleash an attack where he puts both hands on the ground. This will cause electricity to emit from the ground itself. The only way to avoid it is to roll out of the way just in time.
  • Throughout the entire fight, Ocelot will keep dropping ammo into the arena. You can pick it up if you are close to running out.

Defeating Volgin will allow you to progress with the game and unlock the Grounded achievement.
