Potions are very useful items in Minecraft. When consumed, different potions offer different types of effects, both good and bad. Usually, you have to consume the potion yourself, which means only one entity can enjoy the effects of the potion. However, you can turn it into a Splash Potion, which you can throw on the ground to spread the effect to entities nearby. You can take the Splash Potions another step further by turning them into Lingering Potions.

Lingering Potions are the most special type of potions. You can throw them on the ground, and the effect of the potion lingers on the ground for a while in the form of particles. Any entity walking into the particles is bestowed with the effects of the potion. But how do you make a Lingering Potion in Minecraft? Here’s a simple guide for you.

Making the Lingering Potion is quite difficult by itself due to the nature of the ingredient that you need to make one. You first have to make it to the End dimension. You have to find an End Portal in the overworld by using the Eye of Ender. Craft one by combining an Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder in a crafting table. Then keep throwing it to reach the location of the portal.

Once you are there, dig down and find the portal in the Stronghold. After you go through the portal, you have to fight the Ender Dragon. It is a very dangerous mob, which acts as the final boss of the game. To make the Lingering Potion, you have to interact with the dragon’s purple gas attack with an empty glass bottle.

This will give you one Dragon’s Breath; this is the only item that you require, along with a Splash Potion of any kind, to make a Lingering Potion in Minecraft. We recommend collecting as much Dragon’s Breath as possible and storing it in a chest in the boss arena. You can then collect it and return to the overworld after vanquishing the Ender Dragon.

After you have collected the Dragon’s Breath, make yourself any of the Splash Potions of your choice by simply adding gunpowder to a potion. Follow these steps to make a Lingering Potion in Minecraft:

  1. Interact with the Brewing Stand to open its interface.
  2. Power the Brewing Stand using a Blaze Powder.
  3. Put the Dragon’s Breath in the upper section of the Brewing Stand.
  4. Fill the potions slot with three of the Splash Potions of your choice.
  5. After some time, drag the Lingering Potions into your inventory.

We recommend brewing three Lingering Potions at a time to not waste the Dragon’s Breath due to the difficulty of its collection process.
