Here’s a short and quick introduction to those Command Blocks in Minecraft that you have been confused about.
Minecraft is all about creativity, and Command Blocks are in the game to make sure that players can test their limits in the best way possible. And by “best way,” we mean there are no limits in sight. Surely the game’s algorithm may not allow you everything. However, there are some interesting feats that people have been able to pull off using Command Blocks as the center of it all.
To sum it up for you, these are not regular blocks that you can find during your regular survival walkthrough. Did you know that you can write certain console commands in the chat during your gameplay if you have cheats enabled? A Command Block does all that work automatically using redstone power.
The only requirement is that you know your way around the different commands in Minecraft and have “cheats” enabled in your session. We advise creating a new world if you are just starting off to make sure you don’t wreck your progress beyond repair. You will find them in both Java and Bedrock Editions.
Just open up the chat and write “/give @pcommand_block.” This will add a Command Block to your inventory that you can now use for the greater good of the Minecraft community. But what does one do in survival mode?
Can You Use Command Blocks in Survival Mode in Minecraft?
Minecraft’s Survival mode is exactly what it sounds like. It is the ultimate survival experience in the game. You can surely tweak the difficulty at any point, but it can push your survival limits. Since it’s all about making the most out of what’s there, Command Blocks are inherently unavailable in this mode.
There is one thing that you can do, though. Enable cheats in your survival world. This will allow you to type in the command needed to get a Command Block in your inventory. You can then use it in your Survival world for whatever reasons you want. Beware, it will stop you from getting achievements and trophies from there on forward.
A Command Block cannot summon things for you. As we mentioned above, it runs the commands on repeat automatically using redstone power. So, unless you wish to make a giant working calculator or “Rickroll” your friends (trust me, anything is possible), bringing this block to Survival mode isn’t that useful.
You can unlock its full potential in a creative world, though. As for Survival mode, experiment with redstone and blocks like Piston to unleash your creativity without jeopardizing your survival experience.
