Arch-tempered monsters are arguably some of the toughest encounters in Monster Hunter Wilds. While both Arch-tempered Rey Dau and Uth Duna offered a considerable amount of challenge, they don’t really hold a candle to the latest AT monster variant, Nu Udra. Unlike the past Arch-tempered monster quests, Arch-tempered Nu Udra is a 9 Star Event Quest, on par with Savage Omega, in terms of difficulty.

While the regular Nu Udra was already a menace, especially for slower weapons, the Arch-tempered variant is an even greater threat. Thankfully, with the right build and strategy, defeating Arch-tempered Nu Udra isn’t all that difficult.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on Arch-tempered Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to defeat it.

Overview of Arch-Tempered Nu Udra

Arch-tempered Nu Udra is very much identical to the regular Nu Udra and the Tempered variant. However, there is one key difference between regular Nu Udra and Arch-tempered Nu Udra, i.e., new AOE attacks. Much like the previous Arch-tempered monsters, AT Nu Udra has two new attacks that can basically one-shot Hunters if they fail to dodge it.

The first new attack is a small AOE where Nu Udra spills oil near its head and immediately ignites it. The residual fire that forms after ignition lingers around for quite a while, similar to Omega’s Mustard Bomb attack. This attack doesn’t have much range, but deals massive amounts of knockback damage to Hunters in cthe lose vicinity.

Furthermore, the lingering fire can easily eat away at Hunter’s HP, even with Fire Resistance. The other new attack is essentially an expansion of Nu Udra’s existing combo. The regular Nu Udra has a ground slam attack where it raises half of its body and slams down with it.

Although the regular variant performs this combo only once, Arch-tempered Nu Udra can use this attack twice, in quick succession. Apart from this, Arch-tempered Nu Udra is basically identical to Tempered Nu Udra, albeit with higher damage values and more HP.

Weaknesses of Arch-Tempered Nu Udra

Arch-tempered Nu Udra shares the same weaknesses as regular Nu Udra, i.e., Waterblight. Additionally, the monster is also weak to Paralysis, Poison, Exhaust, and Blast. Furthermore, during our testing, we found Dragonblight to be quite effective against Nu Udra, even without Convert Element. That said, Nu Udra isn’t an elemental check.

You can easily overpower the monster with raw damage. If you want an easier time against Arch-tempered Nu Udra, we highly recommend investing in skills like Partbreaker, Weakness Exploit, and even Flayer. Here’s a rundown of the weaknesses of Nu Udra:

Here are some tips to help you defeat Arch-tempered Nu Udra:

  • Before you head into the Arch-tempered Nu Udra quest, we highly recommend grabbing one of the special meals from the Grand Hub. You essentially want to have an active Insurance Meal, in case you end up carting three times during the hunt.
  • Additionally, make sure to bring both Shock Trap and Pitfall Trap, which will help tremendously in the final phase of the boss fight. Do note that Flash Pods don’t have any effect on Nu Udra.
  • You can approach AT Nu Udra just like its regular variant; however, we do recommend keeping more distance between you and the monster during the downtime. AT Nu Udra has multiple follow-up attacks that it can use in quick succession. Staying close to the monster can result in you taking lethal damage.
  • Your biggest damage windows are going to be right after Nu Udra’s oil spill and ground slam combos. Furthermore, if you’ve invested in Partbreaker, you can sever Nu Udra’s tentacles to get additional staggers on the monster.
  • If you have a weapon with active Guard, you can use skills like Guard and Guard Up to block Nu Udra’s flame AOE. Otherwise, you can simply perform a “superman dive” to avoid taking damage.

AT Nu Udra has a lot of health, especially in multiplayer. As such, don’t hesitate to make full use of the 50-minute timer.
