Discover all possible outcomes and rewards for ‘The Renegade Shadowscale’ Dark Brotherhood quest in Oblivion Remastered.
‘The Renegade Shadowscale’ is a side quest for the Dark Brotherhood faction in Oblivion Remastered. The mission is available after you have joined the Dark Brotherhood and completed the ‘Scheduled for Execution’ quest. To begin ‘The Renegade Shadowscale,’ speak with Teinaava at the Cheydinhal Sanctuary. His disposition toward you must be above 70 to offer the quest. If it isn’t, use the persuasion minigame or bribe him to raise it.
Oblivion Remastered The Renegade Shadowscale: Head to Bogwater camp
Teinaava reveals that a fellow Shadowscale, Scar-Tail, has violated the code and fled to Bogwater camp. Since he cannot kill another Shadowscale, Teinaava contracts you to eliminate him and bring back his heart as proof. Follow the quest marker and travel to Bogwater camp, located southeast of Leyawiin, near Topal Bay.
At Bogwater camp, speak with Scar-Tail. The former Dark Brotherhood assassin recognizes your intentions and reveals that the Argonian Royal Court has already sent an agent after him. Scar-Tail defeated the agent, but is now severely wounded. As a last resort, he offers you a deal: let him live and he’ll show you where he has stashed his treasure.
The Renegade Shadowscale: What to Do With Scar-Tail, All Outcomes
There are three main outcomes you can pursue in this quest, with one of them allowing Scar-Tail to live.
Kill Scar-Tail
When Scar-Tail offers you the deal, choose the “Die traitor!” dialogue option. The Argonian will die easily as his health will already be low. Then, take his heart and report back to Teinaava. He will reward you with the Boots of Bloody Bounding, which have Fortify Acrobatics and Fortify Blade enchantments. Since this outcome may prevent you from finding Scar-Tail’s treasure, it is the least appealing option.
Spare Scar-Tail
Choose the “Sure, it’s a deal” dialogue option, and Scar-Tail will reveal the location of his treasure. The treasure is 100 gold, hidden in the Hollowed-Out Rock beside the broken wooden crate. Then, find the Argonian agent lying just southwest of the camp behind a large tree. Take his heart and present it to Teinaava. The quest will be completed, and you will still receive the Boots of Bloody Bounding.
Kill Scar-Tail After Sparing Him
After sparing Scar-Tail and learning the location of the treasure, kill him and collect his heart. This offers no advantage aside from role-playing a truly despicable Dark Brotherhood assassin. You can still find the treasure in the Hollowed-Out Rock if you kill Scar-Tail outright.
