After finishing the introductory quest in The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll receive The Saboteur of Paradise quest. This triggers upon your arrival at Paradise Island. However, this quest is not straightforward. There are many alternate paths to take. On top of that, there are also missables you need to consider before starting this quest. You can get locked out of multiple unique quests or unlockables if you blindly go through this story quest in the game.

That said, here is a walkthrough for The Saboteur of Paradise quest in The Outer Worlds 2, exploring the different options, side choices, and more.

After completing the A Cause Worth Killing for mission, head to Paradise Island. Upon entering the island, go straight to the main building and find Minister Milverstreet and Acquisitions Officer Kaur. The two are arguing about how Farfield should be governed. As the main character, you find yourself in the middle of this argument. Both will have their own quests that you can complete.

However, you don’t have to choose immediately. You have the option to follow Augustine de Vries’ trail first and ignore the two for later.

Gain More Intel About De Vries

Ask Milverstreet about de Vries, and he will tell you to find the records office. Make your way to the location, and you’ll activate a map marker leading to her former home. Inside the house, you can find a journal as well as de Vries’ tracker.

Picking up the tracker will show it pointing toward the Vox Relay Station. Getting there is a bit tricky, as you must either side with Milverstreet or Kaur or take the hard and long route.

How To Reach North Side of Paradise Island

There are multiple ways to gain access to the north side of Paradise Island and reach the Vox Relay Station. Here is a quick rundown of the options you have:

  • Complete the quest for either Milverstreet or Kaur.
  • Unlock double jump and make your way to the east side of the river, and jump across a shipwreck.
  • Complete the An Aegis Against The Miasma quest to acquire unique armor that can protect you from poison gas. Head to the west side entrance and survive the Zyranium gas section.

If you don’t want to side with any of the two NPCs for now, your only options are the east and west entrances. Either way, both will lead you close to the Vox Relay Station.

Head Inside Vox Relay Station

If you want to access this area with less combat encounters as possible, complete the quest for Vigiliant Hogarth in Westport. You’ll receive a pass that you can show to the guard at the entrance.

Showing the written permission, she won’t allow you to enter immediately. You will have to pass a dialogue to convince her to betray her superiors. If you are successful, you will be allowed access to the Vox Relay Station. If you fail the dialogue, you will have to get inside by stealth or take down the guards.

Convince Corbin To Get Rid of Montelli

If you helped Cadet Corbin during the A Cause Worth Killing For mission, you’ll see him again in this section as Marshal Corbin. You can interact with him, show the Writ of Conscription from Hogarth, and convince him to help you get rid of Montelli. If you take this route, you will need to collect evidence that can be used against Montelli while Corbin gathers some of his allies for support. Alternatively, you can trigger the same outcome with a Speech 4 skill.

Your next goal is to find an Uninitialized Card in the Contraband Storage area. Make your way inside an open vent in the room. This will lead you to a terminal where you can insert the credentials into your empty card.

Once that’s done, proceed to the area where you’ll meet Montelli. However, before you confront him, make a detour to the right of the elevator and into his office. Grab everything you can and interact with the terminal. Knowing more about Montelli will allow you to convince him to surrender instead of being hostile.

Confront Montelli

If you confront Montelli without completing any of the side options or passing the speech checks, he will turn hostile and attack you. He will be accompanied by two guards and two wasps. Additionally, if you convinced Corbin to rebel, he will assist you in the fight.

Alternatively, you can convince Montelli to surrender. This is only possible if you follow the necessary steps and pass the skill check. Here is a quick rundown of the dialogue options you need to make for the peaceful route:

  • Crisis? Are you talking about the war with Auntie’s Choice?
  • I don’t think your Sovereign would look kindly on that kind of talk.
  • What actions should the Sovereign have taken, in your estimation?
  • These extreme measures were never your idea in the first place, were they, Montelli? (Accessible only after reading Montelli’s Terminal.)
  • Do what you know is right, not what your puppeteer tells you. (Accessible if you have Speech 5 Skill)

After the dialogue, Montelli drops his gear, and you can loot the Chainspark Cannon and Officer Regalia

Save Either Farfield, Westport, or Both

You need to make one painful decision. (Image via Xbox Game Studios | Gamelisk/YouTube)

With Montelli out of the picture, proceed to track down de Vries. Unfortunately, you won’t find her anywhere in the facility. Instead, you find something far worse.

You check the terminal in Vries’ safe room, which activates a self-destruct sequence and forces the Vox Relay Station to launch into orbit and crash into Farfield. Checking the terminal options, you can redirect the crash to Westport instead.

However, if you meet a very specific requirement, you can save both locations by sending the station into space. You need to have either the Lucky Trait or Hack 4 skill and six Bypass Shunts. Otherwise, you will have to choose between the two unsuspecting towns.

If Farfield gets destroyed, all quests related to that town will fail, and Inez will leave the party and will no longer join your party as a companion. The same scenario will happen when Wesport gets destroyed. However, you at least have the option to complete all quests in that area and have everyone in the town evacuate before heading to the Vox Relay Station. In this case, Inez will still be a recruitable companion afterward.

Escape Vox Relay Station

Whatever option you choose, you need to leave the station before it launches into orbit. Make your way to the elevator, which leads to the exit. Afterward, a new quest will start titled On the Trail of the Traitor.
