A Fracturing Orb is a new crafting tool in Path of Exile 2, added with the recent Dawn of the Hunt major update. Similar to all the currencies or crafting tools in PoE 2, players can use the Fracturing Orbs on gear pieces. However, its working is unique and only applies to an item with four or more explicit modifiers.
Now, players who are familiar with the original PoE title might know the Fracturing Orbs. This new currency is originally from PoE1 with the same working format. According to GGG, the Fracturing Orbs in PoE 2 are less rare than the original game. However, that is not entirely the case, as it is still a very rare currency to drop. Similar to other currencies or Orbs, the stack capacity of the Fracturing Orbs is 20.

Applying the Fracturing Orb on a specific item will randomly pick a modifier and lock it permanently onto the item. Any lock modifier on the item will then become permanent and cannot be removed or altered with any respective currency. How to Get the Fracturing Orbs in Path of Exile 2
Acquiring Fracturing Orbs is only possible by defeating exclusive monsters within the Cleansed biome. The Cleansed biome or maps of the Atlas are formed by eliminating a special boss within a Corrupted area. If you look at the different areas of Atlas, you will see several Corrupted areas with a red symbol. Out of all those areas, one symbol will be brighter, indicating the location of the potential boss. From here, you need to reach and eliminate the boss to cleanse the rest of the biome.
Doing so will spawn exclusive new monsters within the biome. You must eliminate the exclusive monsters within the Cleansed biome to have a chance of acquiring a single Fracturing Orb. For now, there is only a chance of getting one Fracturing Orb per cleansed biome. So, if you see any potentially corrupted areas on the map, run to the boss to eliminate and cleanse the biome. Start eliminating all the exclusive enemies within the biome to get a Fracturing Orb. Make sure that you clear every remaining map within the biome to get it. Moreover, make sure to adjust your Loot Filter as well so that you don’t miss any while obliterating the enemies left and right.
How to Use the Fracturing Orbs in Path of Exile 2
The Fracturing Orb is used only on Rare items with at least four explicit modifiers. It means players cannot use the Fracturing Orb with Normal and Magic Items in the game. The effect of using the Fracturing Orb is as follows.
“Fracture a random modifier on a rare item with at least 4 modifiers, locking it in place.”
Using a Fracturing Orb on a Rare item results in a random Fractured Modifier. As we mentioned above, the Fractured Modifier cannot be removed or altered by any means. All the other currencies like Chaos Orb, Orb of Annulment, Divine Orb, or Vaal Orb will have no effect on the Fractured Modifier. However, they will still work on the rest of the modifiers of the item.
The main thing that makes the Fracturing Orb powerful and crucial for the endgame is that players can use it to create perfect gear items respective of their build. For instance, players find a decent Rare item with good modifiers and manage to fracture a crucial modifier. They can then reroll the rest of the modifiers to get the good ones and then use the Fracturing Orb again to lock in another modifier.
It has a lot of RNG in it, but it is quite useful for creating a perfect build for your character.
