Learn how to catch Applin and evolve it into Flapple or Appletun during Pokemon GO’s Sweet Discoveries event.

The Sweet Discoveries event is bringing fresh content to Pokemon GO, with new species and a few tricks you’ll want to know. If you’re hoping to catch Applin or evolve it into Flapple or Appletun, you’ll need to follow a few specific steps. This guide walks you through what to do, where to look, and how to make the most of your time during the event.
How To Find Applin in Pokemon GO
Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. That’s the full window you’ll have to participate in the Sweet Discoveries event and access everything tied to Applin.
Applin is not a regular wild spawn during this event. To find it, focus on a few specific methods given below:
Tap on Apples in the Wild

One of the main methods involves finding and tapping on apples that appear on the map during the event. These are not items you collect but rather visible objects that can trigger something once tapped.
- When tapped, apples can award one of three things:
- A Sweet Apple (used to evolve Applin into Appletun)
- A Tart Apple (used to evolve Applin into Flapple)
- A Pokemon encounter, and if you’re lucky, that could be Applin
Apples are more likely to appear near Mossy Lure Modules, so using one at a PokeStop improves your chances. You may need to linger for a while, as these apples are not guaranteed to appear quickly.
Wild Spawns (Very Rare)
Applin may also appear as a wild encounter, though this is uncommon. If it does show up, it won’t be frequent. The spawn pool for the event includes a wide range of Pokemon, and Applin is listed as one that “some Trainers might encounter.”
If you’re exploring, keep your eyes open and consider using Incense while moving through areas with plenty of PokeStops. While not a guaranteed method, it’s an additional way to increase your odds.
Field Research Rewards

During the Sweet Discoveries event, there will be Field Research tasks tied to the theme. Completing these tasks gives you Stardust and sometimes Pokemon encounters. Some tasks might offer Applin as a possible reward.
Check nearby PokeStops frequently to find and collect these tasks. If you don’t get Applin from one task, discard it and try again at a different PokeStop.
Timed Research (Free and Paid)
Both versions of Timed Research offer ways to encounter Applin. Here’s what you need to know:
- Free Timed Research gives access to tasks that reward you with Sweet and Tart Apples, a Mossy Lure Module, and event-themed encounters. You may get Applin through these encounters.
- Paid Timed Research, which costs $1.99, includes additional Mossy Lures and a higher number of encounters—Applin among them.
Both sets of tasks must be completed before Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Otherwise, any pending rewards—including Applin—will expire.
PokeStop Showcases
Although not a direct method for catching Applin, PokeStop Showcases during the event may feature Applin and other themed Pokemon. These Showcases often draw attention to specific spawns around the featured PokeStop, potentially making it easier to spot Applin in the area.
How To Evolve Applin into Flapple and Appletun in Pokemon GO
Catching Applin is only the beginning. To evolve it, you need two things:
- 200 Applin Candy
- One of two special items:
- 20 Tart Apples to evolve into Flapple
- 20 Sweet Apples to evolve into Appletun
These apples are event-specific items. You’ll earn them by tapping on apples in the wild and by completing Timed Research. Be aware that these tasks and rewards expire when the event ends on April 29. If you don’t claim them before that time, they’ll be gone.
Can Applin, Flapple, and Appletun Be Shiny?

As of this event, shiny Applin is not available in Pokemon GO. Since evolutions in the game follow the status of their base form, this also means that shiny versions of Flapple and Appletun are not obtainable. If shiny availability changes in the future, Niantic typically announces it officially during new events or updates.
