Right as you boot into your first game of Rainbow Six Siege, you’re bombarded with a variety of operators, each with four or more weapons. The operators then have their own primary and secondary gadgets, making things even more confusing. As you play along, you then run into various maps across multiple game modes, all of which play differently.

Siege overwhelms you with its maps, operators, and modes, and never really holds your hand through it. The onboarding experience is poor and downright frustrating for some. This guide will go over the best beginner tips and tricks for Rainbow Six Siege.

Beginner Tips and Tricks for Rainbow Six Siege

1) Rate of Fire is King

Rainbow Six Siege has over a hundred weapons to pick from, and while you may be inclined to go for weapons with the highest damage, it’s the high ROF weapons that will win you gunfights. Rainbow Six Siege operates on a one-shot-headshot mechanic. This means any shot to the head, even if it’s a stray bullet, is plenty to kill your enemy. High ROF weapons fire a greater number of bullets per second, increasing your chances of landing a headshot and thereby winning the gunfight.

Weapons such as Ash’s or Buck’s AR are great for winning gunfights. If you’re having issues controlling the recoil of high ROF weapons, we recommend grinding away at the Shooting Range for a bit.

2) Intel Informs Decisions

While Siege may be all about the gunfights, it is only half the game. Intel is the other half of any attacker push or defensive hold. As an attacker, it is important to know what rooms the roamers are holding or what setup they have. Your drone empowers you to gain intel and attack accordingly. Similarly, as a defender, check your cameras often. This will give you an idea of the attacker lineup, the type of push they’re planning, the gadgets they have, and more. Gain intel and adapt to the enemy.

3) Always ADS When Aiming

If you’re coming from games like CSGO or Valorant, you may feel comfortable in hipfiring, but in Siege, this is a death sentence. The weapon accuracy is drastically reduced when hipfiring, and is only advisable for shotguns. If you hipfire with weapons at a distance, you won’t land a single shot and will lose your gunfight. Even for shotguns, we recommend ADS-ing while holding angles. ADS-ing with shotguns at close range is a guaranteed one-hit kill as long as you hit the torso or above.

4) Pick the Right Operator

Picking the right operator is key to winning any round in Siege. You want to strike a balance between the operator you’re comfortable playing and the operator your team demands. If your team is being bombarded by grenades, playing a Jager would be ideal. You should be comfortable playing on must-picks such as Jager, Bandit, Mute, and more.

Furthermore, as a beginner, you don’t want to jump into the complex operators either. We recommend sticking to operators in the first three rows of the operator select screen. These operators have relatively simple gadgets that are easy to master.

5) Learn the Maps

If operators are at the heart of Siege, its maps are the game’s soul. These maps dictate the gunfights you take, the strategies you adopt, the operators you require, and more. The map pool is huge, and it is important to familiarize yourself with the maps and their intricacies. When playing, take note of the rotates your teammates make, the walls they reinforce, the callouts they give, the lines of sight they use, and more. For callouts, we recommend checking the bottom of your screen for the name of the room you’re in.

Having map knowledge is also important in instances where you run into toxic players. These players take botched rotates or reinforced walls personally and may kill you. Having intricate knowledge of the maps helps you defend and attack better, and also improves coordination with teammates.
