During the livestream, the publisher revealed that with the update’s release, the highly popular multiplayer action game will finally become free-to-play. Here, we’ll take a look at possible reasons behind this move and what other exciting changes the Rainbow Six Siege X update will bring to the title.

After years of being a title that players needed to buy to play, Ubisoft has finally decided to make the game free-to-play for all. This is probably an easy way for the company to ensure that the game is accessible to a broader base of gamers. Many players might be interested in trying out Rainbow Six Siege with their friends, but they may lack the commitment to outright purchase the title. So, making it free-to-play is a wise move to get these players on board.

However, keep in mind that you will still be able to purchase the game’s seasonal updates and the full game. Doing so will give you access to a larger pool of operators and other in-game content, such as the Siege Cup.

What Will the Free-To-Play Version of the Game Include?

If you plan to try out Rainbow Six Siege X for free, you’ll be happy to know that you can participate in all of its casual modes, which include the brand-new Dual Front mode. However, you won’t be able to take part in competitive matches. So, ranked matches and Cup Siege modes won’t be available to you unless you purchase the title.

Another major restriction in the free version is the lack of a sizeable operator roster. Instead of the 50 operators available to buyers, the free version will only have 26 operators for you to unlock and choose from. The publisher hasn’t revealed which operators will be included in this reduced roster.

On the other hand, players who’ve already purchased the game will receive all of the new features and additions in the X update for free. A free update for the existing player base of the game will surely win the developers some brownie points. However, keep in mind that even if you purchase the game, you may need to shell out additional bucks for future updates after the X version rolls out.
