Rainbow Six Siege does little to no hand-holding, which can make the onboarding process for new players a harsh experience. There are dozens of maps to master, each with its own layout and mechanics. These maps then interact in unique ways with the game’s 70+ operators, which can be confusing for new players.

Finding and sticking to the right operators is key if you wish to make the most of your early hours in Siege, and identifying these operators may seem impossible with the massive roster. In this article, we will go over the best operators that beginners should stick to in Rainbow Six Siege.

Best Operators for Beginners in Rainbow Six Siege

1) Ash

The most famous—and infamous—operator in Rainbow Six Siege, Ash is by far the most-picked operator, and for good reason. Ash brings in a simple gadget toolkit consisting of a breaching launcher, claymores, and a set of breaching charges. Her breaching launcher allows you to open up walls and destroy bulletproof gadgets from a distance.

If all hell breaks loose, Ash is armed with the R4C. The R4C assault rifle is undoubtedly the best weapon in the game. With a simple ability and the best possible weapon in your hand, you will have a much easier (and more fun) time playing the game.

2) Finka

Finka follows along the same lines as Ash. Her ability is simple, yet it allows you to make game-changing plays at the press of a button. Finka’s main ability lets her use nanobots to heal teammates, giving them a fighting chance. This is a universal ability and applies instantly to all teammates, regardless of whether they are in your line of sight or not.

In gunfights, too, Finka is more than capable with her LMG. The LMG has 100 bullets and allows you to prefire and suppress fire with ease. Her AR is more than capable as well for those who prefer it, but we recommend sticking to the LMG.

3) Doc or Rook

Doc is an absolute menace of an operator who is deadly in the hands of any skilled player, regardless of their experience in the game. Doc’s gameplay loop is simple—take every gunfight using the ACOG scope. The operator’s main ability is the stim pistol that lets you heal yourself and teammates. By healing yourself as Doc, you can empower yourself to take as many gunfights as possible.

You can heal teammates whenever possible, ensuring your team always has the advantage. The gadget is simple, and your main goal as this operator is to get kills. It doesn’t get easier than that.

We will cheat and add Rook as a second operator along with Doc. Rook plays much the same as Doc, but instead of healing teammates, he grants armor plates. Using these armor plates grants extra HP and gives you the chance to revive yourself if downed. Rook and Doc’s gameplay loop is more or less the same, and you can use them interchangeably.

4) Vigil

As you slowly familiarize yourself with the map, you may want to pursue roaming to help your team. Roaming allows you to extend your line of defense further into the map, making the enemy push harder. Vigil is the perfect roam operator to get you started. His main ability is a video disruptor that makes him invisible to drones. This means the enemies will have a harder time droning you out, forcing them to push in blind.

Vigil will let you get comfortable with roaming, and his arsenal will ensure that you are always at an advantage in gunfights. One thing you need to watch for while playing Vigil is IQ, which can scan you when your gadget is active and can kill you easily. Make sure to check your cams to see the enemy composition.

5) Jager

The final operator we recommend bringing in is Jager. While Jager has slowly phased out of the meta and is no longer a must-pick, he still remains a jack-of-all-trades. His gadget allows you to catch grenades and other throwables, keeping you and your teammates safe. This gadget requires very little thought; you just have to place it and let it do its thing. Make sure to place the gadget near the sites where your teammates play.

Once the gadget is in place, you can play Jager as a roamer or anchor depending on your playstyle. We recommend extending and roaming near the site perimeters and slowly falling back once the push begins.
