The Mallard pet occasionally drops a random gear each time it activates its pet trait. While equipped, the pet will fly away and leave an item in its place. This is inspired by the real-life migratory habits of the Mallard. What’s more, the pet essentially unequips itself and returns to your inventory every time it activates its ability. Here is a more detailed explanation:
- Southbound: Every hour, the Mallard will use this ability and fly away from your garden, and give the player a random gear. The pet disappears from the Equipped Pet Slot and returns to your inventory. You are free to equip it again to enjoy its trait after another hour.

How To Get the Mallard
You can buy a Mallard from the Fall Festival Pet Shop during the Fall Market Event in Grow a Garden. Unlike pets like the Barn Owl, you do not need to hatch any eggs to get it. However, Grow a Garden players need to first complete 40 Fall Activities to unlock it. Only then can you spend 700 million Sheckles or 479 Robux to buy it.
