With the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI scheduled for May 2026, Rockstar Games has made a major decision. The American-based video game company has shut down Social Club, its long-running social platform. Introduced along with the Grand Theft Auto 4 PC version, the Social Club has been a central hub for connecting players across multiple games for around 13 years.

The social platform allowed players to view profiles, track progress, connect with others, share photos and videos, and gain access to exclusive content. Social Club served as a social hub for Rockstar Games titles, including GTA 4, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, GTA 5 and GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Red Dead Online.

With the Social Club shutting down after 13 years, Rockstar Games players are already wondering what platform Grand Theft Auto VI will use. Learn what the Rockstar Games Social Club shutting down means for GTA Online and how it affects the online game.

Although Rockstar Games has not made an official announcement regarding the Social Club shutdown, it was highlighted by Videotechuk_, a Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive insider, on the X platform.

With the Social Club shut down, the main URL now redirects to the Rockstar Games homepage. The shutdown cuts off various services from games like GTA Online, such as viewing profiles, walls, photos, and videos. However, several services are still active for GTA Online. Career progress and completion can be monitored through the Rockstar Games site, while Crews can still be accessed from the GTA Online site.

While some players have criticized the performance and glitches of Social Club in recent years, others reminisce about its golden era. This suggests that Rockstar Games is currently developing a new platform for social connection, likely to arrive alongside Grand Theft Auto VI.
