Red Dead Online Does Not Support Crossplay and Cross-Progression

Although Red Dead Online is available on multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, it does not feature crossplay. The 2019-released title still has not incorporated the fan-favorite feature. Rockstar Games didn’t develop the crossplay functionality for Red Dead Online, following their approach with GTA Online, which also lacks crossplay.

As a result, players have no choice but to play with friends on the same platforms. Moreover, Red Dead Online does not support cross-progression, which means you cannot transfer your data or progress from one platform to another.

Is Red Dead Online Cross-Generation?

While Red Dead Online does not support crossplay, it does offer cross-generation support, allowing players within the same ecosystem to play together. For instance, PlayStation 4 players can play with those on PlayStation 5, and Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series X/S gamers. Red Dead Online received its last major update in 2022 as Rockstar Games’ shifted its focus to the highly anticipated GTA 6.

Despite cross-generation support, many PlayStation and Xbox players have abandoned Red Dead Online due to the lack of updates. As a result, PC has become the best and recommended platform to play Red Dead Online currently. Moreover, the modding community and mods support are keeping the game alive and fresh on PC.
