How to Find Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3

How to Find Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3

To find Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will need to find your way into the Underdark during Act 1. The most straightforward way to get into the Underdark is to use the Well found in the middle of the Blighted Village. This will lead you to the Whispering Depths. There, you can fight the Phase Spider Matriarch and collect the Amethyst that opens the Necromancy of Thay.

After you defeat the Phase Spider Matriarch, cast the Feather Fall spell on yourself and your allies. Then, leap into the green glowing chasm to land on the east side of the Underdark.

Next, you’re going to want to head northwest to reach the Myconid Colony. You’ll need to pass a very low 5 DC Charisma check to be allowed inside. A Dwarf woman named Derryth Bonecloak can be found on the far west side of the Colony. She’s also a trader you can purchase items from. Additionally, she’ll also tell you about her missing husband and ask you to look for him. This starts the Find the Mushroom Picker side quest.

Baelen is actually fairly easy to locate if you leave the Myconid Colony from the western exit. Keep heading west and then follow the trail as it loops around north. You’ll need to climb down and you’ll find a dwarf man trapped in the middle of exploding Bibberbangs.

Choosing to Save Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3

Find the Mushroom Picker

The best and easiest way to save Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3, is to get him a copy of a Misty Step scroll. There are a couple of different options for doing this, including:

  • You can try to safely reach his pack and then throw him the Misty Step scroll he has inside.
  • You can throw one of your own Misty Step scrolls to him, provided you have one in your inventory.

Additionally, there is a third option where you can attempt to extinguish the flaming torch so that the Bibberbangs don’t explode so easily. Next, you’ll have to use a healing spell or two to bring his HP back up. Then, he’ll be able to safely reach you. You can speak to him briefly, and also return to the Myconid Colony to see him and Derryth reunited.

Finally, after dealing with Baelen, you can attempt to collect the Noblestalk on the far east side of the Bibberbang field. You can choose to consume it yourself if you are playing the Dark Urge, give it to Shadowheart, or return it to either Baelen or Derryth. There are different consequences for each.

The consequences of saving Baelen Bonecloak in Baldur’s Gate 3 can also be tied closely with if you recover the Noblestalk mushroom and who you give it to. Furthermore, this will have additional fallout later on in the game because you can visit the Bonecloak’s Apothecary in Act 3. You can find the shop directly west of where you enter the Lower City at the Basilisk Gate. It’s south of the Devil’s Fee and north of Stormshore Armoury.

Here are all of the combinations of consequences for saving or not saving Baelen Bonecloak in BG3:

  • Save Baelen, give him the Noblestalk: Baelen will return to his former abusive ways. He will man the Apothecary, and Derryth has left him. You can find her at the Elfsong Tavern. Baelen does not sell additional noblestalk, and Derryth thanks you because your actions caused her to leave him.
  • Save Baelen, don’t give him the Noblestalk: Derryth and Baelen can both be found at the shop, Baelen working happily. Derryth’s journal can be found upstairs. If you gave her the noblestalk, then she will have a few for sale at her shop.
  • Baelen dies: Derryth manages the shop alone. If you gave her the noblestalk, she will have a few more for sale. Additionally, you can encourage one of the neighborhood cats (Barsik, Malta, or Myshka) to go and live in the Apothecary so Derryth is less lonely.

Additionally, if Baelen is rescued, you should also return to Derryth at the Myconid Colony. Speak to her, and she’ll begrudgingly thank you and give you the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo.
