The Sniffer is a passive mob that was added in Minecraft in its 1.20 update, which is also known as the Tricks and Trials update. Moreover, the Sniffer was also the winner of the mob vote held back in 2022. The Sniffer can be described as an ancient mob that was once thought to be extinct. But you can now find its eggs from digging sites and hatch a Sniffer for yourself.

How To Get a Sniffer in Minecraft
To obtain a Sniffer, first you have to find a Sniffer egg. You can find a Sniffer egg either by brushing suspicious sand or by breeding two Sniffers. Breeding two Sniffers is easy, as you just need to feed them torchflower seeds. But the former method is a bit difficult, as it is the only method to get Sniffer eggs at first.
Suspicious sand blocks are found at warm ocean ruins. These structures can be found underwater and are hard to spot. You also need a brush that you have to use on the suspicious sand to dust it. On dusting, there is a small chance for the Sniffer egg to spawn from one.
After you obtain a Sniffer egg, you have to place it on the ground and wait for twenty minutes for it to hatch. The waiting time can be lowered to just 10 minutes if you place the egg on a moss block. A Snifflet spawns from the egg, which is a baby version of a Sniffer. Each Snifflet takes around forty minutes to grow into an adult Sniffer.

What Does the Sniffer Do in Minecraft
The Sniffer is a large passive mob that aimlessly roams around and avoids obstacles. Unfortunately, you can neither tame nor ride these mobs. However, you can occasionally find the Sniffer sniffing around. The Sniffer sniffs for torchflower seeds and pitcher pods. These are ancient flower seeds that only the Sniffer can find. While sniffing, the Sniffer then sits on the ground and digs up the seed.
The torchflower seeds can be used to breed the Sniffers and heal them for two hearts of health. Additionally, you can plant both the torchflower seeds and the pitcher pods to grow flowers and decorate your surroundings with these ancient plants.
