Guiding Bolt is a really strong spell that can be used by low-level Clerics in the game of Baldur’s Gate 3. Here is how to use it properly.

Low-level players are always looking for more ways to deal damage against their foes. You will be happy to learn that Clerics can learn a really strong spell right at the start of the game. This is the Guiding Bolt Spell.
This spell is really strong due to its nature and high base damage. However, that is not the only reason it should be considered strong. There are a multitude of reasons for its unassuming strength.
Guiding Bolt OP in Baldur’s Gate 3 Is a Low-Level Spell

Low-level spells will always be treated with a little bias because they get unlocked without any effort. Guiding Bolt is also one of these low-level spells, which is unlocked early on. A Cleric can unlock this spell at level one, which lets you use it for most of the early game. Therefore, even if it is not as strong as the higher-level spells, it is strong due to its low cost of casting.
High Single Target Radiant Damage
For a level one spell, the spell deals an unusually high amount of damage. It deals 4d6 Radiant damage. Of course, this could mean that the spell does low damage (from rolling one four times). Conversely, this also means that the spell could deal up to 24 damage at maximum.
Yes, this is high; however, the spell’s main focus is not the damage. It’s the additional effect it applies. Additionally, many undead enemies and dark forces are weak to Radiant damage, making this spell shine even more. Lastly, Radiant is a very good damage type to use in general. This is because there are very few enemies that have resistances or immunities to Radiant damage.
Advantage From Guiding Bolt OP in Baldur’s Gate 3

The main reason for Guiding Bolt being considered strong is its additional effect. This spell makes the next Attack Roll against the target have Advantage. This sets up your (or any other party member’s) next attack very well.
Having Advantage will let your party have more leeway for the next Attack Roll. Therefore, you can use this spell first to set up your or someone else’s next attack, which will be able to deal damage more consistently due to having Advantage.
Lastly, the upcoming Circle of the Stars Druid subclass also lets you cast Guiding Bolt once without using a spell slot. On top of this, you can also have this spell Always Prepared with this subclass, making Guiding Bolt even more exceptional to use.
These were all the reasons why Guiding Bolt can be considered overpowered in Baldur’s Gate 3.
