Wuchang Fallen Feathers revolves around several parameters, some of which are rather complex. Madness is a unique mechanic or stat in this game, which initially seems to be a major disadvantage. However, it is actually a double-edged sword, and can even be a glass-canon buff if you play it right.

Madness and your special Inner Demon walk hand-in-hand in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. During the early stages of the game, you will fall more than just once owing to this mechanic. That said, it is also possible to clear or lose your Madness altogether.

In this article, we will explain the Wuchang Fallen Feathers’ Madness mechanic in detail.

What is Madness in Wuchang Fallen Feathers?

Madness is a status effect that Wuchang applies to herself every time she kills a non-feathered humanoid enemy or dies herself. However, this is a counter-based status effect. On the bottom left of the HUD, you will notice an outline or silhouette of Wuchang. This will gradually fill up with a red hue as you keep killing non-feathered humanoid enemies or by dying.

At 50% Madness, Wuchang’s eyes turn red, which is when the various effects start kicking in. When you reach 90% Madness, the effects become more severe, and you automatically gain a buff and a debuff.

There are two main Madness levels in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, and this is what happens in each:

  • 50% Madness: Wuchang’s eyes turn red, and you lose a significant portion of your Red Mercury upon death.
  • 90% Madness: You lose all the Red Mercury upon death. A Demonic Mark appears on the nape of Wuchang’s neck, and she takes increased damage while also dealing more damage output. Essentially, she becomes a glass-canon.

Once you get the Demonic Mark at 90% Madness in Wuchang Fallen Feathers, dying has a severe penalty (or challenge.) Your Inner Demon will manifest at the point of your death, and it will relentlessly attack you once you reach this area.

The Inner Demon is extremely aggressive, and you will always have a hard time defeating it. It is essentially a mini-boss who keeps on attacking you and deals a massive amount of damage. A single hit from the Inner Demon can often take more than 50% of your health.

If you defeat the Inner Demon, you will be able to claim a portion of the Red Mercury that you had dropped. However, if you fail to defeat it, all the Red Mercury is lost.

There are three ways to cure Madness in Wuchang Fallen Feathers:

  • Be defeated by the Inner Demon
  • Defeat the Inner Demon
  • Use Divine Gifts at Shu Sanctum

Here is an explanation of both the methods mentioned above:

Be Defeated by the Inner Demon

If the Inner Demon kills you, all of your Madness is instantly gone. As a downside, you will lose all the Red Mercury that you had collected. Generally, you will be more prone to being defeated by the Inner Demon during the early stage of Wuchang Fallen Feathers.

Defeat The Inner Demon

If you manage to defeat the Inner Demon, all of your Madness will instantly go away in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. You will get a notification on your screen which will say Madness Retreats, indicating you are at 0% again.

Use Divine Gifts at Shu Sanctum

You can also remove Madness by using Divine Gifts or Divine Gift Shards at the Shu Sanctum. The second floor of Shu Sanctum holds a golden idol of the God of Shu. Simply interact with this idol and exchange a relevant Divine Gift to instantly remove all of your Madness in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.

However, you need to ensure that you have Divine Gifts to exchange; otherwise, this method will not work.
