Wuchang Fallen Feathers features a variety of side quests, one of which is the Nian Suichang questline. In this quest, you’ll have to help out Nian Suichang several times throughout the different regions of the game. While you begin the quest early on, it can continue to the endgame region. Each time you help the NPC, you’ll receive some items as rewards. While most of the questline is pretty linear, there’s one part where you have a major decision to make.
Your choice here will have long-term ramifications regarding the end of the quest involving Nian Suichang in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. As per our evaluation, it’s best to not expose him, because that lets you play out the remainder of his quest, and you don’t have to get into a challenging boss fight later on.
When Do You Make the Major Choice Regarding Nian Suichang in Wuchang Fallen Feathers?
After your initial run-ins with the NPC at Worship’s Rise, you’ll then proceed to the Cloudspire region. This is where you’ll come across Nian Suichang once more. You encounter him standing to your right after leaving Hillswatch. Speak with him to learn that he’s looking for his equipment, which he has apparently lost. So, you’ll need to recover his equipment, and proceeding further without doing so will automatically fail the rest of the questline.
Continue along the path to reach the Snowy Passage. Take care of any enemies guarding your path. You can expect to find a couple of farmers and finally a soldier. After eliminating the latter, look around near him to find the Tattered Pack. This is the missing equipment that Nian Suichang wants. So, head back to him once you retrieve the item. This is when you get to make the choice regarding whether you want to expose the NPC or keep silent.

What Choice Should You Make?
The game forces you to make a major choice when you return the Tattered Pack to Nian Suichang. Here are the choices and their repercussions in the game.
- Expose him: He turns hostile much later on, and you’ll need to fight him. Choosing this option will also end his questline, meaning you won’t be able to assist him in the following chapters of the game. However, he’ll still reveal where you can find the Ai Nengqi boss. You can still call on Nian during this boss fight and rely on him for assistance. You will also unlock the sorry emote.
- Keep silent: If you choose not to say anything, Nian Suichang will deliver a monologue, and then his questline will continue. You simply have to proceed with the game to meet him later and perform further favors for him.
We suggest keeping mum and carrying on with his questline. Otherwise, you will miss out on many of his quest rewards. Another thing to note here is that if you don’t expose him, you can approach him at the Worship’s Rise in Ruins without him turning hostile. Speaking to him there will reward you with the Sword of Exorcism.
Next, when you proceed to the Annalum Courtyard area, you will also receive more items such as the Zhanlu Sword, Sword of Judgment, and Champion armor set. On the other hand, if you exposed him earlier, you will get these same three items after defeating Nian Suichang in the fight. So, besides experiencing an exciting battle, there’s no other reason to expose him.
