Wuchang Fallen Feathers places a significant amount of focus on really complex combat. Temper is a unique mechanic that works on the principle of acupuncture. This in turn can provide various kinds of buffs to you during combat, ranging from elemental damage to increasing stats like strength and Feathering.

Tempering requires using special Needles, and these are rare. You will mostly get them by progressing through the story and killing bosses. In this article, we will explain the Temper mechanic in Wuchang Fallen Feathers so that you can use it effectively.

Temper includes inserting specific Needles on your left (Feathering) hand in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. You will first unlock this ability after defeating the Man-eating Dhutanga, and you will also receive your first Needle from this boss.

There are a total of five acupoints that can accommodate a total of five different Needles in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. You get only one Needle slot by default, and the rest can be unlocked from the Skill Tree. Here are all five Tempering Acupoints in Wuchang Fallen Feathers:

  • Yangchi Acupoint
  • Huizhong Acupoint
  • Tianjing Acupoint
  • Xialuo Acupoint
  • Jianliao Acupoint

Tempering provides a specific buff to your weapon that you need to activate specifically. You can use it directly from your inventory or have it equipped as an item from your quick slot. Once used, its effect will stay active for a short duration.

By default, you only have one charge of Temper in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. This means that you can only use it once during battle, and the buff (or effect) that it provides will stop after its time threshold is over. You can unlock more charges for your Tempering gradually from the Impetus Repository (skill tree).

Temperance Limitations

You will get an error message if your weapon and Bone Needle are incompatible (Image via 505 Games)

Weapons that have a default elemental typing might be incompatible with Needles of other elements. For example, the Moonlight Dragon Long Sword that has an innate Lightning effect will only pair with a Lightning Needle. You will not be able to use any other type of Needle while wielding this weapon. As such, a fire-elemental Temper will not work on this lightning-elemental weapon in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.

That said, this incompatibility is weapon-specific. It is totally possible for a Needle to work with one of your weapons only and not work with the other one. You can check this from the Temper menu when you are at a Shrine. Simply head to the Temper tab, and you will be able to check if your Needles are usable with your weapons.
