Blue Prince: How To Get the Basement Key

Obtaining the Basement Key in Blue Prince is an essential milestone, bringing you one step closer to reaching Room 46. 

As you explore and uncover the secrets of Mt. Holly, you will eventually come across basement doors at two specific locations. However, you cannot open them right away. Instead, you need to find a Basement Key to open these doors. Finding the Basement Key and opening the basement doors are crucial to locating Room 46. They provide access to the Underground and ultimately lead you to the North Antechamber lever. Here is how to get and use the Basement Key in Blue Prince.

How To Obtain the Basement Key in Blue Prince

Unlike other special keys, such as the Silver Key or the Secret Garden Key, the Basement Key can only be found in one specific location: the Antechamber. The Basement Key will be placed on a stone pedestal at the center of the Antechamber room, with a written note that reads, “To continue up, you must go down,” hinting at the Underground Basement.

However, to enter the Antechamber, you first need to find and pull one of the three levers in the estate located at the Secret Garden, the Greenhouse, and the Great Hall. Moreover, there is also a secondary set of Antechamber levers scattered around the estate.

Where To Use the Basement Key in Blue Prince?

Now that you have the Basement Key, you need to find the Basement door to use it. Activate the Foundation elevator by pulling the lever (accessed by drafting a room with a door leading to the elevator side). The elevator will take you directly to the basement door at the Underground. Use the Basement Key to unlock the door and progress further.

Moreover, the Basement Key also opens a second basement door located beneath the Fountain. You can get there by draining the water from the Pump Room and using the steps revealed under the Fountain.

Opening either basement door is a permanent action, which remains unlocked for all runs in the future. However, if you fail to unlock them in the current run, you need to revisit the Antechamber the next day to obtain the key again.
