What is the Dawnmaster’s Crest in BG3?

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Dawnmaster’s Crest is an artifact that you can find after solving the Ceremonial Weapons puzzle in the ruins of the Rosymorn Monastery. Here is the full text from the item’s tooltip:
- “This unusually shaped crest bears the markings of a Lathanderian high priest, but its practical function is unclear.”
Consequently, the game doesn’t outright tell you what the Dawnmaster’s Crest is for, but you do get a hint that it could be connected to the Find the Blood of Lathander side quest. Don’t discard or sell this item, but keep it in your inventory and it can be useful as you make your way deeper into the Monastery.
How to Find the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3

To find the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to take the Mountain Pass in the northwest portion of the main Act 1 Map and then follow the Rosymorn Trail north to the ruins of the Rosymorn Monastery. Inside the ruins, you will need to collect three ceremonial weapons to place on specific stands in a special room in the north with a stained glass medallion on the floor.
The ceremonial mace, warhammer, and battleaxe can all be found by exploring the ruins of the Monastery. Alternatively, you can also use any mace, warhammer, or battleaxe you may already have in your inventory. So long as they are placed on the correct altars, you can still solve the puzzle.

Once you have the weapons, go inside the room with the altars and stained glass medallion. The longsword should already be in place on the northwest corner altar. The other ceremonial weapons can be placed as listed:
- Battleaxe – Southwest altar
- Warhammer – Northeast altar
- Mace – Southeast altar
When a weapon is placed correctly, the altars will light up. Then, after all four weapons are in place, a secret wall will retract and reveal a pouch. Open the pouch to find and take the Dawnmaster’s Crest.
Finally, if you want to skip looking for the weapons, you can try unlocking the mechanism on the false wall. It will require a party member to pass a 10 DC Perception check to find it. However, it will then require you to pass a 30 DC Sleight of Hand roll to unlock it. This is a high number for the early game, and your Rogue may or may not have the skills or luck to be successful.
How to Use Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3

To use the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must get inside Crèche Y’llek and use the Gith Shard in the Captain’s Quarters to reach the Inquisitor’s Chambers. When you first reach this room you will have to let some significant story events play out before you have the freedom to move around.
Then, on the left/west side of the room, you will find an alcove with two statues. Turn the one on the south to face the wall, and the one on the north to face back into the Inquisitor’s Chambers. This will reveal a secret passageway.

Next, to make it through the passageway you you have to destroy the crystal energy sources and disarm Dawnbreaker locks. This will require a character with ranged weapons and good Sleight of Hand skill. It is best to separate this character from the party and let them move carefully on their own. Always approach the Dawnbreaker traps from behind or the side so you can disarm them before they go off.

Finally, after you get past all of the traps you will reach the pedestal dais holding The Blood of Lathander. However, before you take the weapon, click just below the weapon on the ‘Crest Panel’. This will open an ‘Insert Item’ pop-up. Open your inventory, take the Dawnmaster’s Cres,t and place it in the slot. Click Insert to confirm and The Blood of Lathander is yours!
Should You Get the Dawnmaster’s Crest in BG3?

Yes, you should make the extra effort to get the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3 because it will make collecting The Blood of Lathander legendary mace much faster and safer.
You can simply take The Blood of Lathander from the pedestal without inserting the Dawnmaster’s Crest. However, the Lathanderian put protections in place to prevent such a theft. A deadly trap will activate and you will only have four turns to either escape to destroy the four Lathander Solar Machines. Additionally, the character who took the mace will be trapped in a forcefield that can only be escaped from by using Misty Step or Dimension Door.
Furthermore, this blast can not only destroy your entire party but will decimate the Crèche, as well. Therefore, it is much better, safer, and easier for you to use the Dawnmaster’s Crest to take The Blood of Lathander in BG3.
