Find out whether you should fight, trick, or save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard as we explore each choice and its consequences.
If you are a long-time fan of the Dragon Age franchise, you already know Solas as a trusted companion from the previous title, Inquisition. Unfortunately, Solas serves as the primary antagonist in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In this game, the elf wants to destroy the Veil and pave the way for a completely new era.
At the finale, you can choose to either fight, trick, or save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In this article, we will explore all three choices and their consequences to help you make an educated decision while encountering this choice.
The Final Encounter With Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After the final encounter with Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, there will be two prompts available to Rook:
- “Let’s try this your way.” – Trick Solas with the fake dagger.
- “But I want to fight you.” – Fight Solas and bind him to the Veil.
If you have completed some specific actions, a third option to save Solas will appear which will be marked as “More”. If you select this, a third prompt will appear:
- “You don’t have to do this.” – Use Mythal’s essence to convince and stop Solas.
Your choice here is crucial since it will change the ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
What Happens if You Fight Solas?
You must choose “But I want to fight you” to get to this section. If you choose to fight Solas, Rook and his party will make one final stand against the elf-god. At the end of the cutscene, they are able to overpower him and the Lyrium dagger flies out of Solas’ hands to reach Rook again.
Rook finally plunges the dagger into Solas, binding him to the Veil forever. This also brings the story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard to an abrupt end.
What Happens if You Trick Solas?
Choose “Let’s try this your way” to trick Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Here, Rook tries to attack Solas with the fake Lyrium dagger, that the former immediately takes from him. Solas then proceeds to use this dagger on the Veil, but this in turn binds him to the Veil instead.
Rook then approaches Solas, and a small conversation plays here. Here, you cut Solas’ palm to get his blood on the dagger, and then push him inside the Veil instead,
What Happens if You Save Solas?
If you want to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you must have completed several other steps and obtained Mythal’s essence. This process also majorly involves the Inquisitor, whose romance with Solas is key to saving him. You will also have to convince Mythal to give you her essence without fighting her in the game. Morrigan and the Inquisitor will appear at the finale if you choose “You don’t have to do this”, and Morrigan will then call forth Mythal instead.
Mythal will release Solas from her service, and Solas will willingly sacrifice himself by binding with the Veil. If you have ensured that the Inquisitor wants to reunite with Solas, a slight variant of this outcome will occur. Solas and the Inquisitor will share a passionate moment before both disappear into the Veil. This will also lead to the secret ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Should You Fight, Trick, or Save Solas?
The choice of what to do with Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard at the end boils down to your personal preference. If you want to fight or trick Solas, the ending will depend on various other choices that you made in the game. You will either get the good ending or the bad ending with any of these choices.
In case you want the true ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you must save Solas to trigger the final cutscene. As such, lore enthusiasts are more likely to choose this option instead.
