Who Is Antares in Solo Leveling?
Antares is the oldest and strongest of the Monarchs, symbolizing immense strength and the destructive nature of dragons. While he may be a harbinger of tragedy, his personality is far from that of a brutal killer.
Antares is a confident and relaxed person who doesn’t lose his senses easily. He does not pay heed to humanity, simply using them as a means to an end. He is fully aware of his own powers, looking down on all those he considers inferior. At the same time, Antares shows a degree of respect for strong opponents.
Having been created by the Absolute Being as the depiction of darkness, Antares’ life’s mission is to destroy the world, with only the Rulers standing in his way. While he fought together with the other Monarchs against them, the only key individual was Ashborn—the Monarch of Darkness.
Antares was afraid of his shadow powers but recognized Ashborn’s importance to his side, working together with him. However, far into the future, the Monarchs found that the human world could enhance their strength and help them gain an edge in their battle. While others could find vessels to contain their powers, Antares’ strength was too immense.

Antares is the strongest villain in Solo Leveling, who could even overpower Jinwoo for a long time. As the Monarch of Destruction, the only rival from his race was Ashborn, while all others willfully served him.
Antares’ strength, speed, and all other senses are immeasurable, and he also possesses a keen intellect. In addition to this, he can shapeshift and use telepathy with others.
His main power, however, is connected to his ties with the dragons. Antares can turn into a dragon hybrid with impenetrable durability. His flames are strong enough to burn S-Rank Hunters to a crisp, while abilities such as Dragon’s Fear could dominate all those weaker than him.

Entering through a large gate with his army, his arrival signaled the climax of the Monarchs’ invasion of Earth, pushing humanity to the brink of destruction. He instantly murdered innumerable people, including Jinwoo’s ally, Adam White.
Hence, Antares’ role in Solo Leveling is the culmination of everything Sung Jinwoo has been preparing for. As the main antagonist, his strength, experience, and wisdom are capable of destroying the world. Thankfully, Jinwoo had made ample preparations to counter him.
Antares’ Final Fate in Solo Leveling
When Jinwoo turned up to fight the strongest Monarch, he used Shadow Exchange to move himself and Antares to an isolated battlefield. Here, the two of them engaged in an intense battle. The protagonist initially struggled to damage Antares but eventually slashed him with his father’s dagger.
At this point, Jinwoo’s plan finally came to fruition. The battle between Antares and Jinwoo had distorted space enough to allow the Rulers to enter the world. Antares, both impressed by his opponent’s scheme and irked by his own loss, attempted to attack Jinwoo one last time. However, the Rulers intervened, stabbing and killing him.
This marked the end of Antares in the current timeline, but he reappeared later. Jinwoo had used the Cup of Reincarnation after his victory to go back in time. He did this in order to prevent unnecessary deaths in the world and to stop the appearance of gates and monsters.
Hence, after the timeline was reset, he embarked on a lone quest to kill all the Monarchs. After decades of arduous effort, Jinwoo defeated all other enemies and gained enough strength to face Antares. The two of them fought in the Dragon King’s palace, though the protagonist was strong enough this time to easily win.
