He is a caring and pacifistic individual who opts to choose words over action. However, if threatened, he doesn’t hesitate to destroy his enemies with brute force. His carefree attitude and lack of a Devil Fruit can never be mistaken for weakness, as fans have found through his battles.
In contrast to Shanks’ happy-going attitude, Eustass Kid is an intense, rude, and impulsive pirate who jumps into battle given any chance. However, he is also a formidable member of the Worst Generation, drastically increasing his reputation for defeating Big Mom with Law.
Kid has a bounty of 3,000,000,000 berries, controlling and manipulating metal through the magnetic powers of his Jiki Jiki no Mi. While Kid may have helped liberate Wano, he is far from a traditional hero. He places a high priority on his pride, seeking out vengeance if wronged. This set the stage for his battle against Shanks.

Shanks and Kid’s fight was driven forward by the latter’s ambition to rise up in the world. Having decided to defeat the most powerful figures in the world earlier in the series, Kid and his crew had faced the Red Hair Pirates in the past. During this confrontation, Kid lost his arm and was determined to get revenge.
Hence, immediately after the Wano Arc, he sought out the Red Hair Pirates, meeting them near Elbaph. Confident due to having defeated Big Mom and seeking to establish his dominance against another Yonko, he instigated Shanks.
Shanks, accepting his challenge, joined him in the seas, greeted by the captains serving him. While the red-haired pirate was initially calm, he suddenly became extremely angry. This led to their confrontation.
What Happened During Shanks and Kid’s Fight?
The battle between Shanks and Eustass Kid was extremely one-sided, barely lasting a few moments. It started when Kid was planning on launching a devastating Damned Punk at Shanks’ allies.
At this point, however, Shanks unveiled his prowess over Observation Haki by using the advanced skill—Future Sight. He peeked into the future, seeing the death and destruction caused by Kid’s attack. Annoyed by the severe move of his enemy, Shanks jumped into battle before Kid could launch his attack.
He used a Supreme King Haki-infused sword skill called Kamusari to knock out both Kid and Killer. When approaching his enemy, who was greatly injured, his crewmates begged Shanks not to kill him. In exchange, they offered him their Road Poneglyphs.
Before Shanks made his decision, Dorry and Brogy took matters into their own hands. The red-haired pirate was alerted to leave the Kid Pirates’ ship, after which the Giants unleashed a powerful Hakoku Sovereignty attack. This marked the end of the Kid Pirates, sinking the ship and all its members.
The Significance of Shanks vs. Kid in One Piece
The battle between Shanks and Kid was extremely significant in One Piece since it showed just how terrifying Shanks could be. This was the first time Shanks was visibly angry, completely destroying his enemies for the greater good.
It displayed how he reached his position, showcasing mastery over Future Sight and Supreme King Haki. In addition, Shanks’ presence in Elbaph also acted as a prelude to the fight between Luffy and Scopper Gaban later in the series.
Most importantly, it reinforced the fearsome powers of the Yonko and the gap between the older generation and the new one. Some fans had the impression that the younger pirates had caught up to the legends due to both Big Mom’s and Kaido’s losses in Wano.
