During one of his expeditions, he ran into a dangerous double dungeon. With most of those who accompanied him ending up dead, Jin-Woo miraculously survived. Making matters better, he discovered a mysterious System that allowed him to become the only hunter who could level up.

Using the System’s challenges, dungeons, and reward scheme, he rapidly grew in strength, becoming an unstoppable force in the world. However, while investigating the secrets of his powers, he discovered the world to be under threat from powerful entities known as Monarchs.

Due to his protective and kind nature, Jin-Woo took it upon himself to save the world with his abilities as the Shadow Monarch.

Early on in the series, Jin-Woo had nearly died multiple times when he received his powers. However, after he began leveling up, it was relatively easygoing for him. He was stronger than National Rank Hunters and would swoop in to save the day.

Due to this, fans began fearing the worst, since Jin-Woo could not remain overpowered forever. This was true to a degree since his final opponent was the powerful Monarch of Destruction, Antares.

Wielding the power of the dragons and abilities that seemed to match Jin-Woo, fans believed the only way for the protagonist to win would be by sacrificing his life. Their prediction wasn’t too far off since Jin-Woo used unconventional means for victory. However, this was in a way outside expectations.

Sung Jin-Woo does not die at the end of Solo Leveling, but he does sacrifice a lot for the sake of victory. After defeating the other Monarchs, the protagonist faced the toughest battle of his life against Antares, one he could have lost at any moment.

While the two engaged in an exhilarating battle, Jin-Woo showed off his wits by involving the Rulers. Blindsided by the celestial beings as well as the Shadow Monarch, Antares was finally killed.

However, in a twist, Jin-Woo requested the Rulers to use the Cup of Reincarnation, through which time would be turned back. Once they agreed, a new timeline was created. To ensure he didn’t lose his loved ones in this life, Jin-Woo went on a lone quest to kill all the Monarchs.

Once he achieved this, the world was saved from the original threat. Jin-Woo returned to meet Cha Hae-In, following which they married and had a son.

Sung Jin-Woo’s Role in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok

While Jin-Woo defeating the Monarchs was believed to be a sign of peace, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok reveals the truth. The sequel introduces a bigger villain than the Monarchs – the Outer Gods.

As supreme beings akin to gods, these entities are hoping to invade the world devoid of the Monarchs and the Absolute Being. The only line of defense is the powerful Shadow Monarch, Sung Jin-Woo.

For the sake of protecting the world, Jin-Woo is single-handedly fighting against the Itarim. To ensure his son, Suho lived an ordinary life, he had also sealed his memories and powers as the successor of the Shadow Monarch. However, once gates and monsters invaded the world again, Jin-Woo sent Beru to assist Suho in becoming powerful enough to help those around him.

Hence, Sung Jin-Woo is still the most important person in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. The tale of his legend is only mentioned through words and flashbacks, but fans are eagerly waiting to see him in the series.

There have also been endless theories on Jin-Woo’s possible demise in the sequel to motivate his son and make him the rightful new Shadow Monarch. While it remains to be seen if this happens, it would be a very bold yet heartbreaking scene for Solo Leveling fans.

Conclusion

So, does Sung Jin-Woo die in Solo Leveling? The answer is no. He came close several times, showing a selfless act of sacrifice by resetting the timeline. Nevertheless, he finds happiness in his life with Cha Hae-In and Suho.

However, with the introduction of the Itarim, he is forced into continuing his duties as the Shadow Monarch. While he is yet to make his appearance in the sequel, Jin-Woo remains the most beloved character in the series.
