In Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll and Karlach are possible companions or player characters that you can have on your party in-game. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, making any either/or decision a difficult affair. Our advice is to side with Karlach and recruit both characters into your party. There will be ramifications, of course, but the pros outweigh the cons here.

Siding With Karlach

Karlach can be found near the Toll House beside the river. If you already have Wyll in the party, a heated confrontation ensues as soon as you interact with Karlach. Select the following dialog options:
- “You’re the devil we’ve been hunting, Karlach, right?”
- “Stand down, Wyll. You saw what I saw.”
- “You saw her thoughts. She poses no danger to the Sword Coast.”
Once Wyll is convinced that Karlach isn’t who he thought she was, but rather a victim of the Blood War, he will calm down. The repercussion for this comes during the next long rest at the camp. Mizora, Wyll’s patron, arrives to punish him for breaking his pact. He’s given a fiendish appearance for choosing to spare Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3.

While the cosmetic change to the character is the price you pay for siding with Karlach, you gain a powerful Barbarian in your party with a very interesting storyline for you to explore. This is the choice we implore you to make when you are deciding who to pick between Karlach and Wyll in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Siding with Wyll in BG3 means you will have to fight and kill Karlach. She is level 3 with 32 hit points, so plan accordingly before the encounter. You can loot her body afterwards to get Karlach’s Infernal Trousers, Barbarian Clothes, Camp Supplies, and more.

Back at camp, Mizora will also award you with the Infernal Robe for holding up Wyll’s end of the pact. The other plus point of this option is that Wyll will not develop the fiendish appearance.
