What is Soldier Background?
The soldier is a background in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it represents their proficiencies, where the character comes from, and what their life was like before. NPC characters, including your companions, will recognize your battlefield training. You can also use your tactician skills and bravery to not always in a polite manner but successfully influence others. Being a Soldier occasionally will earn you enemies but also friendships.
You are trained in battlefield tactics and combat, having served in a militia, mercenary company, or officer corps. Show smart tactics and bravery on the battlefield to enhance your prowess.

What are Soldier Proficiencies?
In addition to the role-playing aspect, the background defines proficiencies, giving you a slight bonus to dice rolls and success in checks. Proficiency is what your character is good at and what knowledge they possess. Your Soldier proficiency features are Athletic and Intimidation.
Athletic is a Strength skill that will help you with the following checks:
- Climbing when something is trying to knock off
- Jumping higher and long distances.
- Avoid hazardous areas
Intimidation is a Charisma skill that will help you with the following checks:
- Threat to achieve your goals
- Attempt
- Hostile actions
- Violence
- Manipulate to get what you need
Should you choose Soldier in Baldur’s Gate 3?
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you should choose Soldier if it fits your character and you like it. Backgrounds have defined proficiencies, while classes have a list of skills they can be proficient with, and you can pick only two or three. You are a Soldier, and the game will reward you for defeating your enemies, always getting what you want regardless of the methods you’ll use. You are many battlefields survival and the combat is your second nature. So make sure it’s how you want your character to act before you make a final decision.
How Inspiration Goals Work Baldur’s Gate 3?
Further, in Baldur’s Gate 3, your Soldier background allows you to complete special goals that will award you with inspiration that you can later utilize when playing the game. When you perform an action that is authentic to your character’s origin, they will be inspired.
