In Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, your pirate crew is split into two parts. The first is the boarding squad. These crewmates will follow you into battle when you board an enemy ship. The other part is the Cannon Squad. These crewmates operate the ship’s weapons and repair the ship when damaged.

The Boarding Squad is further split into four teams, each having its own Squad Leader. The Squad Leader will have a special trait depending on who they are. The Cannon Squad also has an equivalent to the squad leader in the form of the First Mate.

Unlike the Squad Leader, you can only have one First Mate. Much like how crewmates have a unique ability that activates if they are assigned as a squad leader, they have another ability that activates if they are employed as the First Mate. However, not every crewmate has a First Mate Trait. Here are the first mate traits, ranked from worst to best:

4. Sink King/ Sink King Kiwami

Sink King is a trait that increases the damage you deal to the stern or back of enemy ships. Its upgraded version, Sink King Kiwami, greatly increases the same.

Although this trait is very useful in dealing large damage to enemies quickly, its downside is that the back of the enemy ship is harder to target. You can consistently hit the stern with your machine guns, but your main armaments, i.e., the cannons, will rarely get this advantage.

3. Strait Racer/ Strait Racer Kiwami

Strait Racer adds a stock to your fuel tank, allowing you to boost longer and more often. The upgraded Strait Racer Kiwami adds two stocks to your fuel tank instead.

This trait is highly useful for ship combat. It allows you to more effectively avoid enemy attacks while also closing the distance faster to attack yourself. The advantages it offers are many, and it is perfect for many different situations.

2. First-Rate Mechanic/ First-Rate Mechanic Kiwami

First-Rate Mechanic increases your uses of Repair by 1. The Kiwami version increases it by 2.

Repairs are a crucial tool in ship battles. At higher difficulties, the damage of opposing ships can skyrocket and sink you in an instant. Having the ability to stay in the fight for longer and make up for any potential mistakes is absolutely incredible.

1. Master of Stealth/ Master of Stealth Kiwami

This trait increases your smokescreen uses by 1. The upgraded version, Master of Stealth Kiwami, increases it by 2 instead.

The trait is the most useful out of all of them. Smokescreens allow you to hide your ship from the enemy, preventing them from attacking you temporarily. It also reduces any damage you take while inside, making it excellent to use if you are about to take a massive blow. It also buys you a window to stop fires, revive your crewmates, and more, making it easily the best First Mate trait in the game.

That was a ranking of the First Mate Traits in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
