Ubisoft has finally discussed the possibility of doing One-Shot Assassinations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Let’s talk about it.

Since Ubisoft started steering the Assassin’s Creed franchise more toward the RPG genre, one of the major complaints from fans was the exclusion of One-Shot Assassinations. To be more specific, in the titles before AC Origins, if you successfully sneaked behind an enemy or got to a position above them without being seen and performed an assassination with the Hidden Blade, you would have a guaranteed kill despite the target’s level or HP.
Origins took a different approach. In the game, you would have to match or exceed an enemy’s level and stats to gain a guaranteed assassination, and AC Odyssey followed the same mechanics. However, the developers did give players the option to enable the One-Shot Assassination through the game’s settings in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest title in the franchise, set in feudal Japan during the end of the Sengoku period. The game has two separate protagonists, but between them, only Naoe is a part of the Assassin Brotherhood and has the famous Hidden Blade, which is a trademark of the franchise. So, it is natural for fans to wonder if AC Shadows will have the One-Shot Assassination feature. Thankfully, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Creative Director has discussed their approach to the latest title’s gameplay. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Will Players Be Able to Perform One-Shot Assassinations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Fans of the older Assassin’s Creed games have something to look forward to because Ubisoft did confirm the inclusion of One-Shot Assassinations in AC Shadows after its announcement. Additionally, the Creative Director of Shadows, Charles Benoit, has discussed more about this feature in the game in a recent interview.
Benoit has stated:
“We offer the option, if you want, to just assassinate everyone. You can use the option, but it’s not the way we intend you to play. We made a system that I feel is quite fun and is key because you have perks that are linked to different types of gear or weapons that allow you to assassinate in different situations.”
The Creative Director also added:
“For example, you have a perk that boosts your air assassinations. If this guy is too strong, you need to look around and think “Maybe I’ll use this rooftop to assassinate this guy,” You have another perk that if it’s night, you have stronger assassinations. It makes you kind of change the way you play with the environment.”
Additionally, the developer also said that even if players unlock all of Naoe’s perks, she still would not be as good of a fighter as Yasuke because she is meant for stealth, and he is specifically designed around direct combat. It is evident that AC Shadows is not an RPG that lets you mold your character completely into anything you like, but you can always switch between the two protagonists to take the approach that suits your situation and taste better.
We agree that the One-Shot Assassination feature is an essential part of the assassin fantasy, but many can also see how it could affect the difficulty and challenge of each level and the game in general. The developers of Assassin’s Creed have always said that they strive to make the games as historically accurate as possible, which is a debatable topic, but the ability to throw a smoke bomb and kill dozens of enemies in an instant can feel inauthentic to the wider audience.
