Blue Prince offers players various game modes to test their skills, including the Curse Mode. This game mode puts you at a massive disadvantage, like losing extra steps and items to spice up the gameplay.

You can unlock Curse Mode in Blue Prince by acquiring the Cursed Effigy. However, finding this item is easier said than done. Additionally, you might be confused with the term Cursed as a debuff and Cursed Mode. In this article, we’ll explain how you can unlock Cursed Mode and clarify the difference between the Cursed debuff and Cursed Mode.

What Is the Difference Between Being Cursed and Curse Mode in Blue Prince

When you donate money to the Shrine statue and then take it back, you will receive a debuff called Curse. This will negatively affect you when you do various activities in the game. Some effects include starting with fewer steps each day, losing extra steps or items with each action, and more. This debuff is temporary and will disappear after a few in-game days.

Cursed Mode, on the other hand, is a special Difficulty setting where you start a new save file and play the game, but with more challenging mechanics. It gives you the Curse effect permanently, throughout the playthrough, from start to finish.

Curse Debuff Effects

Here are the negative effects that you get from the Curse debuff:

• You start with 13 steps per day.
• Lose a step when drafting a Bedroom.
• A Key is lost when drafting a Hallway.
• You lose a Gem when drafting a Green Room.
• When drafting a Shop, you lose a Coin.
• You lose all of the above (Step, Key, Gem, and Coin) when drafting a Red Room.
• A visual effect where the rooms will be darker and the sky will be red during the whole playthrough.

How To Unlock Curse Mode in Blue Prince

To unlock Curse Mode in Blue Prince, you first need to acquire the Cursed Effigy. Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can do it:

• Draft a Bookshop.
• Head inside the Bookshop and purchase the Curse of Black Bridge for 40 coins.
• Draft the Library.
• Request the book you purchased and check it out when it becomes available in the Library.
• Once you do, the Cursed Coffers should be available in the Gift Shop for 13 coins.
• Purchasing this item will spawn an ominous trunk that you can open.
• Inside the trunk is the Cursed Effigy that unlocks the Curse Mode once you grab it.

You should be able to start a new game and set the Difficulty to Curse Mode in Blue Prince.
