Learn more about how voidout works in Death Stranding 2, how it impacts your gameplay, what causes it, and more.

In Death Stranding 2, voidouts are a nuisance you must avoid at all costs. Depending on the difficulty level you choose to play and how adept you are at eliminating BTs, you may trigger one or two voidouts of your own during your playthrough. If you do, you will be greeted with a massive crater that has evaporated everything within it.
Death Stranding 2: What Are Voidouts?
Voidouts are massive explosions that leave nothing but a crate when a BT comes in contact with a living human. The corpus describes the effect as similar “to the concept of annihilation in particle physics – an enormous amount of energy is released, wiping out almost all matter.”

Effects Of Voidouts in The In-game World
When voidouts initially happened during when the Death Stranding first occurred, many thought they were nuclear weapon explosions. When scientists couldn’t find any radioactive material and finally discovered chiralium, they realized the true nature of voidouts and their relations to BTs.
The fear of voidouts drove humanity to stay within their protected bases, especially underground. They have refrained from traveling and thus are heavily dependent on porters to move cargo from one point to another. Proper corpse disposal is necessary to avoid the creation of BTs resulting in voidouts.
Can You Cause Voidouts in Death Stranding 2?
Yes, you, as Sam, can cause voidouts in DS2 if you get caught by a Catcher BT and are unable to shake it off or eliminate it. Since Sam is a repatriate, he can return and look at the crater created. You can also cause a voidout if you inadvertently kill a human enemy and do not properly dispose of the corpse.
Tips To Avoid Voidouts in DS2
- Dispose of any corpse you cause – check out our Death Stranding 2 corpse disposal guide to know how you can do it.
- You don’t need to eliminate the catcher – you can simply run away from the tar ring to escape the catcher and neutralize the threat of a void out.
- Save the game just before you enter a BT-infested area – this will allow you to reload the game to the last saved state in case you end up triggering a voidout.
