Let’s take a look at the new expansions that are arriving in Destiny 2, including what pre-order bonuses you can get.
Bungie is back with another colossal announcement for fresh expansions coming to Destiny 2 under the content update for Year of Expansion. Two new expansions are on their way, along with a major game update and pre-order bonuses.
The two new expansions are The Edge of Fate, releasing on July 5, 2025, and Renegades, which releases on December 2, 2025. If you cannot wait for the new content, pre-orders have now gone live. That said, here’s a brief peek at the new 2025 expansion for Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate
Kicking off the “Fate Saga,” The Edge of Fate invites Guardians to explore Kepler, a mysterious planetoid shrouded in dark matter at the edge of the solar system. This expansion is set to arrive on July 15, 2025, and delves into the lore of the Nine, celestial beings whose secrets are central to the unfolding narrative.
You will gain new destination abilities to enhance exploration and combat:
- Matterspark: Transform into a ball of energy, allowing traversal through tight spaces and delivering electrifying attacks.
- Relocator Cannon: A Void-powered device enabling short-range teleportation.
- Mattermorph: Manipulate the environment by combining dark matter with Strand energy.
Additionally, a new character named Lodi will join the cast, and the expansion introduces the Solo Ops playlist, catering to solo players seeking challenging content. Pre-ordering The Edge of Fate grants immediate access to exclusive items like the Anisotropic Shell and External Sights Emblem.
As a teaser, the Rite of the Nine, a prologue for the End of Fate, is now available in Destiny 2. This new content is a dungeon-themed event. It features new difficulty modes and rewards players with special Nine-themed Holofoil weapons.
Destiny 2: Renegades
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Lucasfilm, Renegades brings the Star Wars universe into Destiny 2. The expansion is scheduled to arrive on December 2, 2025. Set on a desert world reminiscent of Tatooine, this expansion offers more than just cosmetic additions. You can wield iconic weapons such as Han Solo’s blaster and lightsabers. Furthermore, the collab also includes armor sets inspired by Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and General Grievous.
Year of Prophecy Pre-Order Editions and Bonuses
Players can choose from several editions to suit their preferences:
- Edge of Fate ($39.99): Includes the full Edge of Fate campaign and one Active Rewards Pass.
- Year of Prophecy Edition ($79.99): Grants access to both expansions, their respective campaigns, a new raid, and a new dungeon.
- Ultimate Edition ($99.99): Offers all content from the Year of Prophecy Edition, plus exclusive items like the Astral Cartography Exotic Emote and additional pre-order bonuses.
- Collector’s Edition ($275): Includes all Ultimate Edition content, along with physical collectibles such as a statue and lore materials.
Pre-ordering any edition provides immediate access to in-game items, enhancing the early gameplay experience. The Collector’s Edition can only be purchased on the official Bungie Store.
