Demonic Essence provides permanent upgrades by increasing your Health, Armor, and Ammo in DOOM The Dark Ages.

In DOOM the Dark Ages, you will come across various collectible items. Demonic Essence is one among the collectibles you obtain during each chapter. However, unlike the other collectibles, you can only obtain a Demonic Essence by defeating a certain type of enemy.

Each Demonic Essence permanently increases a portion of your three basic stats — Health, Armor, and Ammo capacity, making it one of the sought-after collectibles in every chapter. How To Get Demonic Essence in DOOM The Dark Ages

The Demonic Essence is a collectible that can only be obtained by defeating Demonic Leaders. Leaders are a special type of demon that serves as a mini-boss for each chapter. They are significantly stronger than the standard demon versions and feature unique attacks. Some Leaders even have a morale shield, which must be broken by defeating other enemies before you can damage the Leader.

Defeating them triggers a unique animation, where the Slayer pierces his hand through the demon and extracts its essence. Collecting a Demonic Essence grants a permanent stat upgrade, corresponding to its type.  

All Demonic Essence Types and Their Effects in DOOM The Dark Ages

There are three different types of Demonic Essence. They are: 

• Demonic Essence – Health: Permanently increases your maximum health. 
• Demonic Essence – Armor: Permanently increases your maximum armor. 
• Demonic Essence – Ammo: Permanently increases your ammo capacity. 

You can determine which type of Demonic Essence a Leader drops by observing the icon above their head. A blue plus symbol above a Leader indicates they will drop Demonic Essence — Health upon defeat. On the other hand, a green vest icon and a yellow bullet icon indicate the Leader will drop Demonic Essence — Armor and Demonic Essence — Ammo, respectively.
