Hero’s Return in Elder Scrolls Online helps returning players ease into the game with tutorials, quests, rewards, and free wayshrine travel.

Update 46 brings a cornucopia of new content and features to Elder Scrolls Online. The update follows up on the momentum built by Oblivion Remastered’s success, seeking to draw in old and new players alike to the MMO’s world.
Since its release, ESO has gone through a decade of content updates, which can be daunting for even returning players to get accustomed to. To make navigating Tamriel easier in such instances, the game has introduced the Hero’s Return feature.
What is Hero’s Return in Elder Scrolls Online?

Hero’s Return is a feature in Elder Scrolls Online meant for returning players to quickly feel accustomed to the game’s world with the help of tutorials, quests, and rewards. If you haven’t logged into ESO for some time, Hero’s Return will activate, and a “welcome back” screen will greet you. You can then start the short, 10-15 minute quest associated with Hero’s Return and receive several consumables as rewards.
Hero’s Return Adventure
Hero’s Return Adventure is an optional quest lasting 10–15 minutes that returning players can undertake to refresh their combat skills and navigation. It serves as a tutorial and gives you a few consumables upon completion. Once complete, or skipped, the quest gives way to Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit.
Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit
Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit offers login rewards for a limited time, incentivizing returning players to continue playing until they become acclimated. It also starts small campaigns that involve gathering resources, exploring the game’s new content, and experiencing changed gameplay elements. During this time, wayshrine travel is free, and the player receives a Wayshrine Navigation Chart. The chart reveals unexplored wayshrines in a zone upon use.
Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit reorients the returning player about how the game works while providing rewards. The developers have released several updates for the game since its launch, and these missions help returning players familiarize themselves with the many quality-of-life changes. For example, recent updates have overhauled the map, and older returning players can practice navigating it while they complete Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit.
Like the Wayshrine Navigation Chart, the rewards earned through these quests and regular logins are meant to ease one’s return to Tamriel. Once the Hero’s Return Golden Pursuit is completed, the returning player will be ready to resume their ESO adventure.
