Discover details about the Hexblade Warlock’s Bind Hexed Weapon ability in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how it stacks up against Bind Pact Weapon.

The Hexblade is a new warlock subclass introduced with Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Hexblade warlocks can use Bind Hexed Weapon, an ability similar to the pre-existing Bind Pact Weapon available to all warlocks. Let’s take a look at how Bind Hexed Weapon affects the Hexblade subclass’s playstyle and how it differs from Bind Pact Weapon.
What is Bind Hexed Weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Bind Hexed Weapon is a subclass ability unique to Hexblade warlocks. Using the ability costs an action and binds the main-hand weapon as a pact weapon. Just like the Pact of the Blade boon, Bind Hexed Weapon grants proficiency with the weapon, increases critical hit chance, adds a Charisma modifier to damage rolls, and prevents the weapon from being dropped. Additionally, the hexed weapon has a chance to apply Hexblade’s Curse.
Bind Hexed Weapon Features
Here are all the features of Bind Hexed Weapon you should keep in mind.
Cost
Bind Hexed Weapon uses an action and should be applied after a Long Rest, before combat begins.
Duration
Once bound, the weapon remains hexed until the warlock moves more than 1.5m (5ft) away from it for 10 turns. Only one weapon can be bound at a time.
Availability
Bind Hexed Weapon unlocks at level 1.
Damage
Attacks with the hexed weapon become magical and ignore physical resistances. Charisma modifier is added to both attack and damage rolls.
Hexblade’s Curse
Attacks with the hexed weapon have a 20% chance of applying Hexblade’s Curse when they hit a target. The Hexblade’s Curse condition lasts for 10 turns and adds the warlock’s proficiency bonus to damage against hexed targets. It reduces the roll needed for a critical hit by 1. When the hexed target dies, it heals the Hexblade for hit points equal to the Warlock level + Charisma modifier. Additionally, the warlock can spend a reaction to turn the dying enemy into an Accursed Spectre in their service.
Difference between Bind Hexed Weapon and Bind Pact Weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3

Bind Hexed Weapon emerges as a unique ability available to the Hexblade Warlock, while all warlocks at level 3 can unlock Bind Pact Weapon. A Hexblade Warlock can have both Bind Hexed Weapon and Bind Pact Weapon since the latter provides an Extra attack with Deepened Pact at level 5. Even though there may be some redundancy in picking the Bind Pact Weapon, the Extra attack feature it unlocks is well worth it. However, remember to use Bind Hexed Weapon and not Bind Pact Weapon for the Hexblade since the former can apply Hexblade’s Curse.
