To get Duellist’s Prerogative, you must complete Save Vanra Quest in Baldur’s Gate Lower City during Act 3. This will reward you with Legendary Rapier.

Step 1 – Start the Save Vanra Quest

You can start and complete the quest when you reach Lower City in Act 3. First, head north of Basilisk Gate, where you will find Flaming Fist Barracks. It’s close to where you enter the Baldur’s Gate City for the first time. Inside commander and worried mather Lora will argue. You quickly notice something is wrong with the Flaming Fist officer. She has trouble with memory, so offer your help to Lora instead.

The woman will explain that her daughter, Vanra, was missing and the last time she saw her was in the Blushing Mermaid. The bar in the center of the city is your next destination. Head straight to the west from Basilisk Gate. The Blushing Mermaid is a tall wooden building behind the central wall. Check the map below for reference.

Step 2 – Head to The Blushing Mermaid

Speak with the bartender to gather information about what happened, and he will point you to Captain Grisly, who not long ago disarmed Lora. She was worried asking around about her child when she attacked the bartender with the knife.

The captain is upstairs in the room on the right. Do not trust them during the conversation. They try to mislead you! When the Captain offers gold for “silencing” Lora, they obviously insist too harshly. Pick the “Absolutely not – I refuse to do your dirty work” dialogue option, which will force the Captain to reveal their true identity. By choosing this path, you’ll also earn +1 approval from almost all companions.

Step 3 – Auntie Ethel! Again?

Auntie Ethel is hunting for children again, regardless of whether you killed her in Act 1. This time, she reveals that her goal is to create and train a new Hag, and little Venra is her tool to achieve that. She ate her. Now, Ethel carries her in her stomach until she is ready to transform her. Auntie will vomit her, and a new hag will be born. Then, destroy the special mushrooms the hag uses to transform Vanra and knock out Ethel to save the child. Both outcomes will save the girl, and you will get your Duellist’s Prerogative Legendary Rapier in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).

Going for the Hag’s Bane potion will coincide with Avenge the Hag Survivors or Help the Hag Survivors quests. Also, if you have it, the fight with Auntie Ethel will be easier.

Step 4 – Find the Ethel’s Lair

When you are ready, in the same room where you found the Hag, go through the door to the Blushing Mermaid cellar. Inside, jump on the higher level platform where your character will pass an automatic investigation check, revealing a hidden passage similar to the Tree House in Act 1. Pass through the green swirling mirror to find new Auntie Ethel’s lair.

Inside, Ethel trapped the real Captain Grisly and her crew. They are under the effect of another Hag’s spell, so you can fight them to get Salty Scimitar(rrr). Alternatively, put a Whispering Mask on and sneak pass by them to the room on the left. If you successfully pass an automatic perception check next to the wooden wall door, you will find a lever. Pull it to open the secret door and let in the rest of your companions inside. When you defeat the hag, the spell will be lifted, and you, the Captain, and her crew will be safe.

Step 5 – Hag’s Bane Solution – Defeat Auntie Ethel

If you have the Hag’s Bane potion, throw it at the Hab, and she will throw up Vanra. When the child is safe, you can kill the Hag and don’t worry about the mushrooms.

Or Destroy Mushrooms Solution – Defeat Auntie Ethel

The fight starts immediately, but in the turn queue, you will notice three monochromes images in addition to Auntie Ethel and your team. Mushrooms are in three corners of the chamber. If you don’t have the Hag’s Bane potion, you must destroy them before you knock out the Ethel to save the girl and get Legendary Rapier.

Then, ensure you have the “Non-Lethal attacks” turned on in the passives tab of your team’s skill bar. Remember, if you simply kill her while Venra is still inside her, you will also destroy the child. So, to knock her out, you must use the “Non-Lethal Attacks” passive and only melee attacks. With mushrooms destroyed, now you must lower Ethel’s health to zero.

Step 6 – Get Your Reward Duellist’s Prerogative

Return to Lora, she waits in her house located east of the Blushing Mermaid bar.
