How to Get Tarnished Charm in BG3? Explained
To get the Tarnished Charm in Baldur’s Gate 3 you must find Auntie Ethel in the Riverside Teahouse and discover her secret. You can first meet Auntie Ethel as a merchant in the Hollow of the Emerald Grove. However, as you make your way down to the Sunlit Wetlands you’ll encounter her out on the road in a confrontation with a couple of brothers.
You can choose to side with whoever you like here. Continue on to discover the Riverside Teahouse to the west. There, you can discover Auntie Ethel’s true identity, which will make her hostile. Fight her, and after defeating her you can loot the Tarnished Charm from her body.
Finally, even if you fight her in the Teahouse, make sure to check the fireplace to find her secret lair. At the bottom, you can enter her workshop and find the powerful Staff of Crones. Additionally, we highly recommend negotiating for Auntie Ethel’s hair so you can get the permanent bonus.

The best way to use Tarnished Charm is to equip it to any character that is struggling with survivability. If one character is having a difficult time staying alive, this accessory will give you a bit of breathing room whenever they go Down.
However, this amulet is not likely to be best-in-slot for any character because it’s easy to pull a character out of the Downed state with a little healing.

These are the best tips and tricks for finding and using Tarnished Charm in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- If you leave the Tarnished Charm on Auntie Ethel and cast Speak With Dead, her dialogue will be different than normal.
- If you don’t loot the Tarnished Charm from Auntie Ethel in Act 1, you will have another opportunity in Act 3.
- It does not appear that you can get the Tarnished Charm from Auntie Ethel while she’s in the Hollow at the Druid Grove.
