Chicken Chasing is a quirky side quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 that you can take up to win some cash and recruit the Owlbear Cub.

The Goblin Camp in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 offers several side activities before you follow the main story. Chicken Chasing is a unique activity located on the western side of the outdoor camp. Depending on your past exploration and actions, the quest will have you chasing either a Dishevelled Chicken or an Owlbear Cub through an obstacle course. The goal of the game is to shepherd the beast towards the finish line marked by two torches.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Chicken Chasing Guide

To start Chicken Chasing, speak with Krolla and pay the betting fee for the game. If you killed the Owlbear and spared its cub earlier in the Act, it will replace the Dishevelled Chicken. To win the game quickly, use the Speak With Animals spell and talk to the chicken when the chase starts. The Dishevelled Chicken will ask for help. Say, “I’ll help. Just run through the posts, and you’ll be free.” The chicken will do exactly that, and you will win the game.
In the case of the Owlbear Cub, you will have to pass a persuasion check to get it to run through the posts. If you fail or do not have access to Speak With Animals, approach the cub from the direction opposite to where you want it to go. You can also block some paths of the course with boxes and barrels before the game starts to make guiding it easier.
Additionally, the game provides the option to provoke the Owlbear Cub or Dishevelled Chicken into attacking the goblins. This is not recommended if you wish to recruit the Owlbear Cub or win the game’s small gold reward.
Chicken Chasing Rewards

Once you guide the chicken or cub to the finish line, Krolla will declare your victory and call you over. However, she will refuse to reward you because only goblins can win at Chicken Chasing. You can use Intimidation, Persuasion, or Illithid powers to convince her.
Using Illithid guarantees you will pass the check, but the character using it will not be able to rely on the power again until Long Rest. The major upside to winning the game is improving your relationship with the Owlbear Cub. Speak to it after the game ends and offer it a home at your camp.
