If you want to brighten up your base, here is a list of light source blocks in Minecraft as well as their respective light levels in the game.
All light source blocks are not only for decoration in Minecraft. Aside from brightening up an area, they can also stop hostile mobs from spawning. This gives them practical use so you don’t have to deal with monsters that crawl or walk in the night.
While spawning a bunch of torches in your base is cost-efficient, it’s not aesthetically pleasing. That’s why knowing all the light sources in Minecraft can help you decide which ones best suit your taste in interior and exterior design. Each of these items also has its own set of light levels, allowing you to set the mood and atmosphere of an area.

Torches
These are the most basic form of light source blocks in Minecraft. The torch can be crafted with charcoal or coal and a stick placed vertically in a crafting grid in order. The soul torch can be crafted through the same process but with soul soil at the bottom of the crafting grid. Alternatively, you can find these items in the ancient city.
Candles
Candles can be crafted by placing a string and a honeycomb in a vertical position in a crafting grid. Candles can be stacked to emit higher light levels. You can also dye them with any color available.
Campfires
Campfires are unique light source blocks that can be put out and reignited again. You can also place any form of meat in it to cook food. You can craft one with three sticks, a coal, and three wooden logs of any type. Alternatively, you can craft a Soul Campfire by replacing the coal with soul soil.
End & Nether Light Blocks
There are three light source blocks found in the End and Nether dimensions. These don’t necessarily require crafting.
End Rods are abundant in End Cities. Glowstones can spawn in large veins in the Nether dimension. Breaking them normally drops Glowstone Dusts. However, if you have a Silk Touch enchantment, you can mine and get the full block. Shroomlight, on the other hand, can grow from huge fungi found in the crimson and warped forest biome.
Froglights
Froglights are unique as they require you to feed a Magma Cube to various types of frogs.
Feeding Magma Cube to a Warm Frog will result in a Pearlescent Froglight. Temperate Frogs can spit out Ochre Froglight. Cold Frogs generate Verdant Froglight after exacting a Magma Cube.
Lanterns & Lamps
Lanterns are decorative light source blocks in Minecraft that you need to craft using various materials.
The Lantern can be crafted by surrounding a Torch with iron ingots on a Crafting Table. The Soul Lantern has the same recipe, but change the Torch with a Soul Torch instead.
To craft a Redstone Lamp, place one Glowstone in the center of the crafting grid and surround it with four Redstone Dust (above, below, and on both sides of the Glowstone).
The Jack o’Lantern can be crafted by placing a Carved Pumpkin and a Torch below it in the crafting grid.
Underwater Light Blocks
The Sea Lanterns and Pickle are light source blocks that can be found in the warm ocean biome as well as in ancient ruins and monuments.
You can grow sea pickles underwater on top of a coral block. You can also use a bone meal to make the growing process faster. Sea Pickles can be stacked up to emit more light levels. You can stack them to emit higher light levels.
Sea Lanterns can be mined in ocean structures. Alternatively, you can craft a Sea Lantern by placing four Prismarine Shards in a cross shape and five Prismarine Crystals in the remaining slots of the crafting grid.
