Obtaining Obsidian in Minecraft can be quite challenging unless you learn how to create and farm the resource.
While Minecraft allows players to craft almost anything, obtaining the raw materials can be a challenging process. Some resources are particularly more difficult to gather than others unless you know how to find them. This is especially true for Obsidian, which often confuses players. Obsidian is a hard, dark-looking block used to make the frame for a Nether Portal.

How To Get Obsidian in Minecraft
To get Obsidian, you need to first locate a pool of Lava in the overworld. Obsidian can be obtained by combining Lava with Water. However, there’s a catch: you must mix the water with the stagnant Lava. Pouring it with flowing Lava will create stone instead of Obsidian.
Start by crafting a bucket with Iron Ingots and then, fill it with water. Then, pour it over the Lava pool and watch it turn into an Obsidian block. That’s it; you have created Obsidian. Additionally, Obsidian can also be found as loot in several chests in villages, ruined portals, and bastions.

How To Mine Obsidian in Minecraft
Now that you have Obsidian, you need to mine the resource to make use of it. However, you need a Diamond Pickaxe or Netherite Pickaxe to mine Obsidian. If you have used any other pickaxe, it will take a long time to mine and won’t drop Obsidian. Equip a Diamond Pickaxe or Netherite Pickaxe and start to mine the Obsidian.
It is suggested to mine the Obsidian while the water is flowing, as there may be more Lava blocks beneath the upper layer. If there is any Lava under the Obsidian, mining while the water is flowing will turn the Lava into Obsidian, making it easier to farm.
