The first step to collecting Honeycomb is to locate a bee nest. While seems challenging, finding a bee nest becomes much easier if you know the trick. The bee nests are naturally generated in biomes with plenty of trees surrounded by flowers. Your best chances are in the Meadow biome, but you can also find bee nests in other biomes such as Plains, Sunflower Plains, Forest, Flower Forest, and Birch Forest.

Bee nests are usually attached to trees. You can know the difference between empty and full bee nests from the looks of it. Empty bee nests are filled with honey by bees, which roam within a specific radius to gather nectar from flowers. Bee nests filled with yellow spots on windows and dripping some liquid indicate they are full and ready for harvesting honeycomb.

Harvesting Honeycomb Without Angering the Bees

Honeycomb can be gathered from bee nests using a pair of Shears. You can also collect the honey with a bottle to use it as consumable. When approaching a bee nest filled with honey, use your pair of shears to separate the Honeycomb from the nest. However, doing so will trigger the bees inside it and make them hostile.

There are two ways to harvest Honeycomb safely without provoking the bees. Placing the campfire beneath the bee nest or using a dispenser with shears inside, allows you to acquire the Honeycomb without being attacked by the bees.

How to Use Honeycomb in Minecraft

As mentioned above, Honeycombs can be collected from both bee nests and beehives. While bee nests are naturally formed, beehives can be crafted by players. You can use Honeycombs and planks to create a Beehive, luring bees and storing honey, similar to a bee nest.

Honeycombs are combined with Strings to craft Candles, which act as light sources. Placing 4 Honeycombs in a square shape creates a decorative block called a Honeycomb Block. Additionally, they can be used with copper materials to prevent them from oxidizing.
