In this guide, we discuss if Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have crossplay and how that will work in this highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic RPG Dragon’s Dogma.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG that encourages players to choose their own unique experiences. The game will be released on March 22, 2024, on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In this guide, we will be looking at if this game will have crossplay.
Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 Have Crossplay?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not have Crossplay for no reason other than it is not a multiplayer game. Rather than being joined by other human players, player characters will be joined by Pawns, NPCs who will learn and adapt with you on your adventure. According to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 website:
Players can customize their own main Pawn,
Capcom
who will always accompany your Arisen,
and enter a covenant with up to
2 additional Pawns from other players through the network.
Pawn Recruitment
The last part of this section is where the line gets blurry. While there will be no Crossplay, Dragon’s Dogma 2 players will connect to a network and recruit two pawns created by other players. Someone may even pick your Pawn to adventure with them! It is currently unknown if this Dragon’s Dogma 2 network will be platform-specific or will allow players to utilize Pawns from players on any platform.
Crossplay, or cross-platform play, describes the ability of players using different video game hardware to play with each other simultaneously. For example, someone playing Destiny 2 on their PlayStation 5 can play with someone else playing on their PC. Most multiplayer games released across platforms are embracing cross-play as a new standard, even if it doesn’t yet apply to every title. A related concept is cross-save, where the player’s progress in a game is stored in separate servers and can be continued in the game but on a different hardware platform. Most cross-platform online multiplayer games, such as Diablo 4 and Final Fantasy 14, utilize cross-save. It is unknown if Dragon’s Dogma 2 will utilize cross-save.
