The Butterfly Collector is a side quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows where you find 10 hidden origami butterflies around Osaka. They are located on trees in southwestern Settsu. These butterflies come in various colors and are hard to spot unless you use the observe mechanic, allowing you to track and highlight the locations.

While the quest starts with a children’s game, it takes a dark turn as it progresses. This guide will help you locate all 10 origami butterflies and complete the Butterfly Collector quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How To Start The Butterfly Collector in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Butterfly Collector quest can be started by interacting with a strange woman in Katano, Izumi Settsu. Moreover, the quest is a part of the People of Settsu quest board. In the Butterfly Collector quest, she invites you to participate in a child’s game of collecting origami butterflies. However, some of these paper butterflies contain hidden notes. They reveal details about a child kidnapping ring and trigger a series of sub-quests. 

While collecting the 10 butterflies, you acquire various sub-quests including All Will be Well, Find the Child, One That Got Away, Paper Trail, and Chrysalis. These sub-quests focus on hunting down the child kidnappers, with the final target being the Gamemaker, the strange woman who gave you the quest. Moreover, you will be given the choice of killing or sparing the Gamemaker at the end of the quest.

Although the observe mechanic can make the quest a bit easier, some butterflies are tricky to find even with the help of the mechanic. Here is the complete list of all the 10 origami butterflies.

Purple Origami Butterfly	Found in a tree by the waterline at the north of Osaka town. Look for a tree next to a lantern by the southwest of Nishinomaru Garden.
Green Origami Butterfly	Found in a large tree in the courtyard of a house at northeast of Osaka town.
White Origami Butterfly 1	West of the Green Butterfly, on a tree next to a bridge over the water westward.
White Origami Butterfly 2	It sits on a tree after you cross the bridge from White Origami Butterfly 1 and head south along the waterline.
White Origami Butterfly 3	Along a path by the waterline at the northwestern edge of the village, located north of Osaka.
Yellow Origami Butterfly	Located on a long tree in the courtyard directly north of the Gear Vendor at Osaka, western side of the river.
Red Origami Butterfly	Found in a tree in the small garden at the north of the Temple of Osaka.
Blue Origami Butterfly	Located on a tree near a shrine southwest of the Temple of Osaka.
Orange Origami Butterfly	Sits on a tree at the waterline at the southern end of the Temple of Osaka.
Pink Origami Butterfly	Found on a tree near the bridge heading southward. The tree can be found near the stable at the far southwest of Fisherman’s District.
